Buy / Sell / Trade Rules

What we could do is just flag BST spam and have the mods take care of it. That way if there are killer deals, or WTBs, or neat products they can still make it in. I don't know if anyone would trust some 3-post-to-his-name person with broken English selling standard-fare laser pointers anyway.

That's what was done before... not sure if what we have now is an improvement, but it does work.

Mainly, in creating this thread, I just wanted the same rules sticky posted in the General and Welcome sections. I realize it's kind of redundant, but it will increase the chances that people will read and post.

Search back through the completed sales.
I believe that you will find that this is a non-issue

Water under the bridge for me... I'm was really going on a very strong assumption anyhow, assumption with strong harping spider senses.

isn't the 20 post restriction there, at least in part, to protect other forum members?

I jumped on Charlotte's wicked laser offer and paypal'd the money before the post was deleted. Today, I see Charlotte posted the same ad in several forums. I'm worried.

There is a sucker born every minute, and I'm really beginning to feel like one.

It is kind of for safety, but the 20 post restriction is not likely to do anything to deter a determined scammer.

If anything it just acts as a secondary spam filter imo.

As long as you didn't send as gift, you'll probably be fine, but keep an eye on the other listings. Did she make the other threads, on other forums before, or after you sent payment?

Sadly, it appears after. a whole day, after.

Hello I'm not at home at the moment I will send it right away soon as I'm back

Charlotte

That's a bit red flag, is she from UK? I thought this was a domestic sale, within US?

Also first class mail? Big no, no. If it's in the US, IMO always spend the extra $12-$15 for priority.

If you don't have a tracking number by tomorrow evening, I would put open a dispute if I were you... that still leaves 2-3 weeks for you to work with, but at least it will put a hold on the funds, if they are still in paypal.

it will be sent first class recorded post with tracking number available.
If you don't get a Tracking number within a few days or
you get the tracking number runaround... I would open
a PayPal Dispute just to hold the Funds before they can
be taken out of the seller's account.

Then when/if the Laser shows up safe and sound you
can cancel the Dispute.

This really looks like a scam. No surprise, huh? :scowl: The seller responded to an inquiry from another email address with wording suggesting they are prepared to sell the item yet, again.

PayPal dispute started.

This may be a good lesson to other newcomers. And it also seems like common sense, too.

Charlotte,

Thank you. This is good news. What about tracking information?
Further, you didn't follow through and send me the image you said you
would send me.

Definite scam, check this out. (Start from the bottom)

Hi billy I've just spoke to my husband and he said its too risky he said only get the full payment or the laser will be going to a friend of his.:

I will accept $80 then I will accept rest of the payment once the laser arrives.

I would absolutely love this laser but the risk of this being a scam is pretty high, and as you said you had no interest from anyone else, I personally think my offer is rather reasonable.

Thank you very much
Billy

P.S. I would be willing to up my offer to $105 if you can take part payments

Sorry billy you are getting the laser for next to nothing I paid $360 for this and it works perfectly fine I abide by PayPal's seller protection and I can assure you the laser will arrive.

Hi Charlotte, would you be willing to accept part payment now and the remainder of the money once it arrives?

Well, the good news is, you will get your money back out.

The only danger here may be in her/him sending you a padded envelope with some crap in it, just to provide paypal with a tracking number.

If you do happen to receive the package, do not accept it, or if it's left by the door, bring it back to post office, and should you choose to open it, certainly videotape opening it.

Oh, good idea. Don't even open it. I cannot say I even feel curious, at this point, what might be in it.

Yup, personally I would just refuse delivery. Besides, if you're expecting a large lase, but get a small padded envelope with seemingly nothing inside... no reason to open it.

:)

Make that 4000 post, 5 year member and 200+ rep. :)

I think the way it is now is fine. 20 posts and no neg rep is good. This is still an open forum. People should have reasonable restrictions for the B/S/T section.
