We don't have too many problems with that, anyway. It might end up causing more problems than it solved. I think it should be up to the buyer as to whether he wants to take the risk of buying from a newb.

And we already have a sort of "verified sellers" with the rep system.

i see your point as well, but here is my thinking. I have sold on this forum and i don't really have any sales rep. now if i was a scam i could of taken the money, sent a empty box, made a new account posted a new add and do it over again and again,

have a thing where you need to post so much before starting a thread would mean i would need to spend time on each account to earn my right to sell this would stop almost all scam's because no one looking for fast money wants to take the time to post lol

as for the addon i would be happy to look it up if someone could tell me what V this forum is as i don't think it's posted anywhere

I agree that a minimum post count requirement to sell on
the Forum would be a good thing...

It will keep the Fly-By-Night sellers from selling in the B/S/T
sections before they contribute and prove themselves to
the Forum community...

It would help weed out some of the unscrupulous sellers that
just come here to sell and nothing else...

Fly-By-Night sellers don't want to invest time to make a fast
buck... They want to get in... do their deed and get out....

Having a minimum Post count criteria for the B/S/T sections
would at the least get rid of these type of sellers...

Here's a question about that approach though:

- How would you impose that restriction without impeding a new user's ability to post "WTB: Used 50mW Red laser...." - ie, non sales threads, but rather buying sales?

^^^^ If that question was directed at me.... then...

As it is there is a criteria that a new Sales Thread in the Pro Shop
(not sure about the B/S/T section) must be OKed by a Moderator...

But I don't think a WTB is... I guess a moderator could comment
on that to be sure..

I know that when I opened a Sales Thread recently I had to wait
for a Mod to let it through...

It seems it would be fairly easy for a Mod to check the Post count
of any Member that wants to open a new Sales Thread.. and
either accept it or reject it....

For the Laser Pro Shop, the criteria is that the seller must have a "proven" track record of sales and customer service. Also, at least one of the mods has to trust them ;)

I think that overall, I support this idea. Scams are NOT a major problem here, but when they do happen, not only are members harmed, but the ensuing drama is unwelcome.

It could be run like the Pro Shop. In the Pro Shop, threads must be approved, but anyone can post in an existing thread. This would not restrict NooBs buying and WTB threads could be easily approved.

Also, I detest people that are here ONLY to make a buck off of the members. :gun:

This would also limit any new Chinese drop-shippers (or just a new employee) from crowding the B/S/T board with reposts of the DX style order house sites that continually pop up.

However, as with any "rule," it would also restrict the more casual sales by Johnny, who finally got his Arctic only to find that he didn't like lasers (or his mommy wouldn't let him keep it) from posting a sale thread

Peace,
dave

I agree only about the criteria of a minimum number of posts (100-150)... for "verified seller list" and other things there is the section of pro shop as Daguin has already said :)

I wholeheartedly agree... :yabbmad:

As to poor Johnny's dilemma... he could ask a reputable member
to sell it for him or his laser could be sent to a middle man for
verification and the (reputable) middle man could put it up for
sale for Johnny.

OR

Johnny could build up his post count by contributing to the Forum
first...

Jerry i was just going to post the whole use a middle man, this would make sure the laser works right and that a trusted member had the item in hand..

I also like the idea of a mod approving the sale thread itself this would be nice,

A couple months ago I had an excellent experience buying a Yobresal 445nm laser from a member who decided it wasn't for them.
The member joined LPF five months ago and currently has a total post count of 8.
So as long as it's made clear that new members CAN change their minds and re-sell through a middle man, I am in agreement.
Re-selling is a pretty frequent occurrence here.

i think if someone with under the post count wants sell and is willing to use a middle man they can do something like this if we are using the mod Approve idea.

New Person go's to make a new post that must be approved, in there post hey put will use middle man for this deal.

Mod contacts seller and find out what middle man is going to be used and when the middle man gets the item he/she will post on behalf of the seller .

that brings me to maybe a better idea how about a middle man list.... A list of Trusted Members who Have put there name down as middle men. this way it's easy to pick one that is close to the seller.

I would say anything under a post count of 200+ post should be approved by a moderator.

Anything above that should be allow to post a sale thread.

If that person with a post count greater then 200+ post does a bad deal. Then they will be restricted from posting there or a moderator will decide what to do with it.

So in other words all approvals including 200+ post users will have to get approved through a moderator.

<200 poster will get decided by a moderator what to do if to allow or not.

All user that have a greater post count then 200+ will automatically get approved.

If a user with 200+ Posts has done a bad deal then a moderator will decide what to do then. Restrict them or use a middle man for example. Until they build up confidence and trust back up that a moderator will allow them to sell again.

I think this sounds far.?

Middle man is a good idea, but so far I've only seen Dave acting like a middle man. It could turn into a big PITA after a while. Even if a few people step up.

A nominal fee for a middle man could be applied...

The thing is that if it is too easy for a new member to sell
on the forum... all the Chinese Fly By night type sellers
will be here spamming as we've already seen in the past.

By making it a bit more difficult to post in the Sales sections...

1) minimum Post count
2) use middle man
3) small token fee for Middle man help (Up to Middleman)

That alone will help weed out the bad guys....
Like I said before...the scammers want to get in... grab your $$$
and get out...
They don't want to make an effort to make a sale or spend
any money...

LPF has been a FREE Sellers Billboard and the Scammers know
it.... IMO

No doubt there will be scammers that will jump through the hoops
but the majority will look for easier pastures...

what if a password was required to create new posts in the b/s/t section. but the only way to get a password was to create a poll thread about yourself asking the forum if they want you to be able to sell there?

i like the 200+ post count too... it will enable us to view who is posting fluff just to get into selling then we can ban the heck out of them!!!! ban ban ban!!!

also, isnt all of this kind off moot. as long as there are pms cant anybody just come and peddle their wares?

i could see a lot of the ideas being doable if on every page of the forum there was a banner at the top that read "Do not buy out side of the b/s/t, or proshops secitons"

michael.

You know i was thinking the same thing but then i remembered another forum that has the post count rule for buy and sell and they have a rule on there forums if you are reported for pming people trying to sell something you get a temp - Perm Ban on the forums for trying to get around the rules.

i don't think it would be too hard for an admin to put such a rule in on the boards i know that i reported one person already who sent me a pm after getting banned and i reported it to a mod and the mod banned the new account as well LMAO
