Arrr heck. cant give rep again till...blahh blahh.

Arg, thats a beaut - 4.4w of delight
(could it be 4.45W of 445nm?)
More picks / more vids / more more more :)

Re: Worlds most powerful handheld 4.4W 445nm

Don't forget to add some vids :gj:

Preferably some wall burning ones

I will, later today. Last time I tried to video a laser my video camera display went all red, hopefully I can figure something out to video this.

Wow! That is fantastic!!!

So what did your neighbors say after they saw it? :eg:
Thanks! :) It was something along the line of "Holy shit!"

Are you able to adjust the focus / are the flat part of the dots or "wings" aligned on the same plane?

The laser is not focusable, it's fixed focus. I used a waveplate so the beams are aligned in the same way, it makes a | instead of a +.

Well done man... + 2

Shes a monster.

Thanks! :D

Yep, I get this general feeling with all 445. Have accidentally put a few burns in the walls, and outside the beam is insanely visible in the sky, almost like a huge illuminated arrow going "Guy with an illegal laser down here!"

Kinda need ultra low power modes, maybe run just 1 diode just above threshold? :D

Yeah, even running each diode at 220mA I was getting 250mW out of this laser.

Awesome build man! I really like it!
Smeerworst must see it :D

Thanks! :)

meh. The alignment sucks balls.

j/k it's awesome :D +1 as I promised you.

Thanks! :) I didn't realise the beam was coming out of the laser at a funny angle until I had everything done. It's not a huge deal, and I'm definitely not messing with the alignment again after it took me so long :p

 wow Arg, that's amazing

I will + rep you when I can :D

Glad it turned out well after all that work you put in :D

Thanks! I'm glad it all worked out in the end too, I had my doubt about aligning optics in such a small area.

I will + you if you make it + beam !

Just kidding ..

Yuck + beam :p I like having the same beam specs as a single diode laser :)

It could have been 4.5W. I am running the diodes at 2A each. If I was to run them higher I could have gotten more power. I did not want to run the diodes that high because then they degrade faster. I'm okay with doing it in a single M140 build, because the diode only costs 50$ to replace, but the diodes for the laser are almost 200$ to replace and would not be a simple task to replace because the alignment would not be the same.

Nice man... a slot to open up and view combining cube would be over the top, but that's messing with perfection.

It would be neat, but the optics tray looks messy :p I didn't design it with ascetics in mind, just functionality and longevity.

Thanks everyone! :) I'm working on the information/multimedia thread as I type this. It will be up tonight for sure.

Where did you find an appropriate wave plate? Will any optic work for 445?

Again, Great Job. Absolutely Phenominal!!! You have inspired me to go ahead with my plans on doing a multi-diode setup for sure now. One more question: Does/did doing this require one or two wave plates? (one for each diode?)

Just one wave plate, two would bring it back to the + shape :p

If you ever decide that thing is too dangerous. I'd be happy to take it off your hands ;D

Seriously though that's some great work! Excellent job!

You plan on a 5-6W build with 9mm diodes?

A 5W build would be possible, but I don't think 6W is possible just yet, the optics loss is too high. Even if someone did build a 6W laser, the diodes would degrade really fast at that current.

I don't plan on building another though. It would be much easier now that I know what to do and what works best, but it took a lot of $$$ to build :p
