I want to see you integrate a blu into the RGY !!!  What a display there !!!

Mike
hehehe that would be cool! although to be visible, it would need to be atleast prolly 50mw, so can you push the blu ray that far? ;D

Buy a Blu-Ray DVD burner and you probably could!

well the next gen of blue diodes is supposed to be around 250mW, too, so -> GB!!!

Anyways, I am veeery close to buying one (waiting for a friend of mine for shared shipping cost), but two questions here:
1. Daedal, you said "for a small fee" (or sth.) you would disassemble the module so that I have the raw diode - is that possible or was that ironic?
2. What would I want the optics around the diode for? Are they useful for collimating the beam or will I throw that away? I mean, can I drive the blue diode in there and have a "proper" beam, or do I need an external case for it?

well, thanks so far...

I don't think he was being ironic. You can ask him to disassemble it for the diode alone and pay him accordingly. Most people will just discard the optics and the rest of the assembly since they have no use for it much like when they harvest dvd burners.

I think there are some really nice things to play with in the assembly:

1 Small (3.5mm wide) cube beamsplitter Dichroic and polarised, reflects Violet

1 Large (4mm wide) cube beam splitter Dichroic and polarised, reflects Red and IR

2 small transmission diffraction gratings.

1 Variable focus servo unit and Lens.

LCD polarization rotator / beam shaper.

1 Doublet lens

1 Turning mirror (8mm square) coated for 405nm, 650nm, 780nm

1 Quarter wave plate

Lens assembly

The disk read lenses, and servos. The Lens is very special, and comprises of what appears to be a zone plate, and a very high numerical aperture objective, with a very unique shape, and extremely short focal length!

You can use the beam splitters and mirrors to combine red green and violet beams.

AWRIIIGHT!!! RGB here I come!

No seriously, that is way cool! The whole assembly! Hm, will probably need that ;)

Is there any way I can pay with paypal? I will pay the extra fees associated with it if I can.

Folks - the diodes come out of these blu-ray assemblies REALY easy....do not panic, no sweat, either - they really are the easiest decks to disassemble I have ever seen !

****Yeah, this coming from teh guy that uses ice-picks to get the little worthless (to me, anyways !) diode out of the Aixiz modules ! Muahahahahahahahaha !*****

Seriously, though - they really ARE easy to get out.

That option is still available. I'll PM you payment info. :)

Mind sending that info to me, too? Subscribing at another onlinepayservice is not my preferred option.

daedal how long will this be going for... cause i wanna at least make sure i can build a red DVD laser before i mess around with a blue ray diode ;D
