im trying to decide on which diode for my build i want as much power and good life span for a reasonable price

how much power are you looking to have? FYI the 8X diode will run you around $180, the 6X is around $60

My advice, do not go to the dark side. Many have and many were burned. -Glenn

thats a "fake" 8x if im correct u should look for a BDR -205 or BDR-203 not a BDR-S05 you see the difference fake one has a S instead of a 2

anyway GGW witch a nice lens sounds like your best bet, @ hightech deals they are pretty cheap if he still has some

and like said above dont buy from Dark he has also been banned here, and all stuff in his shop is sold out lol

Do not buy from darklasers(tyler), if you do a search on dark lasers you will find more than you wanted to know. and i wouldnt put a 6X ggw up that high, you will burn out the diode, i have had my own issues with the 6Xs and have recently upgraded my BR to an 8X BDR, however it had run me a good $$$. so id recomend starting with a lower power on a 6X untill your ready to make the comitment and upgrade to 8X. jayrob has some very nice kits cant go wrong there. you can get much higher powers from an 8X up in the 400s with jayrobs 405nm g1 glass. if you are planning to harvest your own diode from a sled, you might want to just find a good writer drive on sale and go that route. newegg.com has a WHO8LS20 for 179.99, that will give you an 8X blu-ray diode, as well as some others... tutorials can be found on the forum, good luck with your build!

Quick note: S03s are 4X diodes, and junk. GGW-H20l is a much better diode for the buck.

Also I would not push that GGW over 185mA, then tend to die quick after that. Get a GGW and Jayrob/Larry lens for around $110, it will give you over 200mW. Then when you want to make the plunge to an 8X you can use the lens and get a big boost, and then sell the GGW to recoupe some of your $$.

Yes, and a 405 G-1 lens if you want it to go over 200mW. When you get an 8X you will need that glass lens because it gets so hot it will distort plastic lenses. It's up to you if you want to buy it now or later.

Batteries and charger too.

just built a flashlight/bluray combo with 405-g-1 from jayrob today running at 180ma which is supposed to be alright and it is hitting 205mw with the laserbee 1. So IMO I would go with the GGW running the same setting and that should last forever. focused properly that will burn anything.

ok im gonna get the ggw.....dang those lenses are killin me 55 bucks!!

yeah It's because they have to custom machine everything and put the lens in the threaded part by hand. Very tricky work.

I recommend LarryDFW's lens available here: http://laserpointerforums.com/f64/fs-hi-power-ar-lens-assy-25-30-inc-vs-aixiz-22493.html

I just got one and am very pleased with the beam and dot vs. jayrobs. Maybe it's just me but Larry's lens seems to not have the splash output of Jay's. And both are very similar output gains.

When I focused the laser to a small dot very far away it would still burn my hand... i couldn't imagine what it would do if I had the dot focused close up and put it over my hand.

Last I heard, they were both using the same lens (405-G-1)

Peace,
