Avatar makes you depress and suicidal

IMHO Avatar causes depression in people who can see what is going on with the world, not necessarily that they cannot go to Pandora. It is sobering that our species has caused devastation that makes the worst scenes in Avatar look like a practical joke in comparison.

The worst of it occurs when one realizes that we would displace the natives, OR WORSE. Then realizing: there isn't much anyone can do to change anything, there is no way out, you are part of the corporate greed based system, bagged, tagged, barcoded and barricaded with no way out except maybe suicide. Make no mistake, if the corporations had their way, you would be a COMMODITY whose sole purpose in life is to buy stuff, and value it over anything else including family, love, and God.

It's TIME TO WAKE UP! Perhaps it's time to unite the clans and fight back by hurting them in the only place it counts- the wallet.

How? They've got us by the balls- it's virtually impossible to enjoy life without buying their corporate crap. Even FOOD and WATER are commodities! We can't hurt them all in the wallet.

you know, it IS possible to live without paying a cent to corporations after a certain point. My grandfather would barely notice a difference if society failed. He has solar and wind power, not a single wire to the grid, and water is pumped from a well into a 2000gal tank I believe. The tank is above the house, so it will work without draining power at night. He has plumbing for a backup heavy-duty generator. Like one of those van-sized ones, not those wimpy little ones. There are about 100 cattle grazing on his land, there is a steady supply of deer going through, and he has the guns and know-how to eat them. They have 6 laying hens, and the neighbors have a rooster if they wanted to breed. They have a small orchard and plenty of land that could be used for gardening, not to mention all the land around their property for 20 miles is covered in grape vines. All of their communications are by satellite, but if those were to break off he has lots of radio equipment. If he really wanted, he could be self-sustained with minimum hassle. So it might be an effort to switch for most (he built his house like this from the start), but really you could live completely off-grid comfortably after paying for the solar panels and stuff.

Solar panels loose their efficence in years, and can be broken from storms ..... motors and genetators can break, or burn, or hang ..... pipes can break or leak ..... and so on .....

Sure IS possible to live without an industrial society, but just be sure to have a full magazine of spare parts, if you plan to live in the same way for long time after the industrial society stopped to exist, or just not having any more contact with them

yep- current civilian solar panels have an effective lifetime of <50 years. so we may have to wait a while to truly be off-grid. and he does have a whole separate storage building filled with replacement parts and tools.
