AtMaDrive is here

well i guess i was one of the lucky ones that probably grabed your last 2 drives. :na:

and by the way i'm still loving this driver powering my m140. great product, and even better is now you can get it in a couple of days from DTR now! now all i need is a G-2 lens from DTR.

yup with a G2 that output will certainly peak higher :D

glad you like it :) you got the last 1.2Amp, actually the only :san: now i limit them at 1.15Amps ;)

 i'm sure am a lucky guy then. and i know i've said it a bunch already but thanks for all your help.

The POT version is coming ever so closer :D

7749861996_d658951c26.jpg

Time to start the whole testing process again! :D it's still not close to ready for release untill it's been tested thoroughly... It's 9.2mm x 12mm :D

Only 3 are being made for this test batch...
7749862512_716f4f73f9.jpg

Maybe October they will be available by someone...I'm not going to be selling single units of drivers anymore. Only about 1$ more than the previous version :) and only 0.2mm larger ;)
The pot's are pretty sturdy I've already tried to destroy one as a test ( normal conditions not hitting with a hammer :D ) and it stood up pretty well :) its single turn so it's very sensitive ;) you will need a steady hand as its 50mA - 1150mA...

I have high hopes for this version, it will certainly make my life easier without all these resistors & people will have more choices with the current.. Once again it's BOOST only this is NOT a buckboost, but hopefully it's the microboost alternative once this version gets released :)

:thanks: for looking everyone

Wow I cant wait. I have a question though: DTR said his batch was bad. Does tha mean my one that I bought from you is bad too?

PM inbound :)

Thanks for the comments guys! :D hopefully it works out good :)

I think this is starting to go a bit too far, I have to jump in here and clear a few things up.

What makes this any better than a BenBoost?

Nothing. Its a copy. Actually its not quite as good because the switch current is a bit lower and the FB voltage is significantly higher.

It's different in a few ways...
Main thing is I've gotten it stable enough by far to run a 12x or single mode osram... It's not some morphed version of a BenBoost either... It's completely my own & I started it before they posted the thread I believe...
http://laserpointerforums.com/f67/atma-boostdriver-72291.html
There was my first thread...
I tested it very well to ensure minimal problems, EVERY diode that can be used with it has been tested...

PHR805/03
6x 405
12x 405
M140
Osram pl450b

I only haven't tested the 9mm diodes... But people would not likely run those at 1.15Amps with this driver, they would opt for something like lazeerer's x boost capable of 2.5Amps in boost...
It is also greatly smaller & slightly more efficient... If you have any questions id rather it be in PM's please :thanks:

Ah, but it is a morphed version of a benboost. It is painfully clear when you look at the two. All you did was take a design made by me and rhd and move some stuff around, make some minor changes. You even had the nerve to use many of the exact same parts!

The benboost is stable enough to run a 12x too. I notice your driver has caps between LD+/-. This was what caused oscillations on the benboost, so I highly doubt yours is completely stable and safe. With the oscillations the benboost didn't kill every diode it was hooked to, just a few. That's probably why you think its fine.

Also, my thread was up a month before yours.

Nothing against you, Anthony, but all questions regarding the capabilities, prices, etc. can and should be discussed in open forum. After all, you are selling a product and people have the right to see any discussion regarding the product.

Maybe I missed it, but do you have data showing efficiency? I'd be interested in seeing what kind of efficiency you get with it. Also, what's the feedback voltage on the main IC, if you're comfortable sharing that information?

When he started his first thread about it he was using an IC that is pin compatible to lm3410 with a lower switch and higher FB voltage. He said that he reverted back to that IC, so the FB voltage is 1.25V. Such A high FB voltage will definitely lower efficiency.

Yes I agree... People should know, if you read through this thread you will see everything I have posted.. I meant PM's for technical questions as it seemed you were leading to those types of questions...

I will go & post the datasheet I have... All information regarding this driver is in there...

I have tested 85% efficiency back when i tested this version, it was early june though. I had sent free drivers to multiple people to test out & give me feedback... all of which pointed to it being good, DTR himself put one on a 12x & it did not die... I sent one to tsteele to get scoped but he fried it with his iron which is ok as we all make mistakes... now i have one going to foulmist to scope... I myself put it on an osram & set it @ 270mA and it did not die, i later changed it for a 200mA as i wanted a longer life out of that diode...

attached is the manual / data sheet... i must update it although as i left a few things out & after further testing lowered the max output current.

I have a very hard time believing he has 85% efficiency when there is 1.25v being dropped on the sense resistor. Maybe the datasheet say it has 85% efficiency when it set up as a voltage regulator.

My problem really isn't that you just copied the benboost. Thats something you have to expect when you give out designs freely. My problem is that RHD gave you the go ahead to work on a driver designed after ours, and you made a nearly identical copy (right down to many of the exact same parts) THEN you make claims like yours is the best in the world, you made it completely by yourself, and even that yours was out first! :tsk:

Anthony, you do good things for this forum so I really hate to do ^that. Other than this one thing you have been a great member here. I just wish you would give credit where credit is due. Hope you're not too mad, sorry :o

Ben I am not angry but I would like to clear some things up aswell...

I DID NOT take YOUR or RHD's files & move parts around I apologize greatly & it seems there is no way to prove it, I made my own & I worked on my own, I am using your IC which is not your IC it's TI's ic, it's not my IC either it's an IC, I never went saying its the best driver in the world, I'd like to see that statement please, I agree I should give you credit, your thread helped me, it Honeslty did, and I thank you for that, what you did for the forum with RHD was very kind & generous, it helped many people, including myself, but I did not copy yours, they have similarities I agree but they have differences. I used your inductor, and the IC, nothing else is the same... In my originall design the inductor was different & you were the person to point out it would not function correctly with that inductor, if I copied your design why wasn't it just good right off the start? Why did I take time & test & revise it? & I am still revising it to this day, if there are 2 of the same parts I don't see a huge deal? Sorry 3 of the same parts... Have the resistor aswell. There have been other drivers with the Lm3410, did you know the microboost uses that too? Did you or I copy the microboost? NO, we designed them on our own, I don't mind if people think this is a copy of your driver, it's simply not.

I will thank you for making that thread though, it helped me a lot in the beginning, and if I remember in my original thread RHD said it was the purpose to help, it did help & you helped people & I was one of those people, I just happened to be making a driver & that means I copied it??? By me using the dorkbot PCB's does that mean I'm copying also??? :wtf:
After that thread I was even sending RHD some of my files, he offered to help which was very generous,
Look, here's something up on my Flickr, MY OWN designs while I was in the testing progress...
7014919635_10f22bf675.jpg

7014919611_4cec3f9a28.jpg

7006872541_e14c503abd.jpg

Those were not all completed or working designs btw
Check when those were posted on my Flickr ;) there's a few more but I'm simply attempting to prove my point, after that thread remember I was a scammer??? Remember? So I stopped posting it & just continued...

I have no problem with you speaking your mind, it's perfectly fine & nothing for me to get upset over,
hopefully I cleared things up...
thanks

If you want more credit I can link to your thread more alright? Is that fair? If you think I'm lying I'll go make another boost completely different just to satisfy people.

Well I'm glad you aren't really mad. You can't tell me that the green one in the OP wasn't copied though. I've seen you original board file and it was not made from our files Ill give you that, but the one in the OP was either made from our files or was greatly inspired by our files. You have same parts, in the same places, connected the same. There are a couple minor changes but the base of the board is the same.

I never said anything about the IC being mine. I also wouldn't care at all if you had at least said it was influenced by or designed after the ben boost. If you look at the two they are extremely similar which is why I said it was copied. You certainly didn't come up with a design of the same parts, in the same packages, in the same places, pointed the same directions without copying our design.

It was not copied, your schematic influenced it if anything.
I don't know how to prove it  all I know is the current file with the POT & all has vastly drifted from the fixed version except once again the IC & inductor, this time not even the resistor, & I had plans to change the inductor & make a micro version just capable of lower outputs... I have no intention of changing the IC though... Sorry

I won't be mad over that :p why should I get mad it will get us nowhere... All it will do is start a flamewar...

Your schematic was helpfull, but like I said, I did not use any other components except the IC & inductor, both of which are available to anyone for their use.

Well good, I'm glad you have redesigned the new version. I'm cool as long as you aren't trying to sell a blatant copy of my work like the green one in the OP. I didn't put my money and time into that driver so someone could steal it for a quick buck.

It's not a blatant copy nor a copy... Schematics have their similarities... They don't even anymore... They will continue to differ trust me then they won't even
Look anything like each other... Wanna see my current files? I have no problem showing you, Just so you can compare. & let me know if it's your driver Ok?

If I wanted to sell BenBoosts I would have asked you & I would have sold BenBoosts, I had asked you once if I could sell the round ones which didn't work out good & I didn't sell any so I stopped selling them... I know you remember that...

P.S. I like the look of the pot on the boost there.

I don't want to fight I didn't copy it but I consulted the schematics.. I dont know what else to say... The POT version looks nothing like it except again the inductor & ic... I bet anything if there was a different inductor all would be fine, but sadly this inductor is good for the price it's a little tall but I'll try and find another one now :)

Glad you like the pot, I am trying to get it smaller though... .2mm larger then the fixed version
