Astral Driver - Buck, Boost, & Buck-Boost

That is great, what is the maximum voltage which can be supplied to the driver without toasting it? I also wanted to ask for the specs, was searching for them.

This particular IC is designed to take 2V-24V input voltage

BUT, the output voltage needs to be higher than input voltage.

Hence you'll find it difficult when using 4.2Vin to drive some LD with certain current which produce Vf below 4.2V.
That's why i'm including a free 5A diode (Vf of 0.6-0.85V) to be optionally soldered by yourself on the V+ input of the driver
That way the battery voltage would fall about 0.6-0.85V if observed on the V+ input of driver.
 
More information:

You might be able to drive anything (e.g a string of laser diode) provided that the total Vf generated is below 28V
Absolute max output voltage is 30V, above this the driver will toasted.

It is better to use more than one Li-Ion if you wish to drive a very high Vf (string of LD)
Just keep the distance between Vin and Vout as small as possible (about 0.6V) and keeping Vin below Vout.
High distance between Vin and Vout causes more heat and reduced efficiency.

For example:
It is better to use 8.4Vin to drive 10Vf (string of diode, e.g 2x 5V diode) compared to use single litium (4.2Vin), although it is also working that way.

I need the ones that can go to 7 volts or maybe even a little bit higher. I don't need that much current, though. If it will adjust between 30 mA and 750 mA that would be perfect. Send me a PM with a total cost for two and I will send it to you. :thanks:

Up'd my order to 15 each of the drivers with the 24-28 VDC input capability.

Edit: I received a 495 nm module from Germany today, it has your Astral Omni drive in it, what is the highest voltage I can put into your driver? Searched the forum for awhile, but so full of posts I can't find it without sweating through too many.

I have used that driver, Chris. They needed a mod done on the front end, but seem to get a fairly high Vf. I don't know what the maximum might be, but the Vf on those 495nm diodes is pretty high. The only concern I have with them is they do get pretty hot if run for long periods.
 
Working well tonight using a single 3.8-4.2 battery :) 495 nm is an awesome color, but anyone who has seen it, as yourself, knows that. So far, so good, keeps on ticking.

Hi Paul, your taking about the Picodrive! Chris's 495nm module i sent him is using the Omni :D, no mods done on the Omni's :beer:
 
My mistake. I thought you used the Pico on that module. I have used the Omni too. It seems to be a good driver in all my tests with it.
 
If the output voltage needs to be higher than the input, then I cannot use this to drive two volt IR diodes, correct?
 
You would never use a boost driver with an IR diode. You can use linear and buck drivers. He has those as well.
 
On second happy thought, since I want to use this for a lot of IR diodes in a string, never mind, it will work out anyway.
