ARCTIC HOST feeler! interested? READ

Do you flip balisongs? I noticed the model 42...
Not really, no.
I was thinking more of the answer to life, the universe and everything.
I thought it might fit this laser once it's a finished product.

I see this is going to be an INSANELY SICK host  capable of some big power. So I'm curious as to what type of laser/driver(s) combos you guys are going to be putting into it, as it looks like pretty much any build will fit into the antArctic. :)

Traditionally it should be a 445, :D but there are so many different ways to build one. Is anybody thinking of making it a 405 or any other variation laser?

Mines going be about 1800mW 445nm
-----------------------------------------------

Just wondering how things are going, still not pushing just trying to figure out when we will be paying so I have the $$ then.

This is still in the "designing" phase correct? If so thats perfect (for me) And just let us know hows your doing bud

Eventually... I'll have two and I'll make two lasers - Ideally one would be a 2W 445 and the other maybe 400-500mW 405, but we'll see how it goes. :)

Either way, the host is sick and I'm very excited for it!

Agreed. If it's in like March I'll get 2 as well :p

EDIT: Does anyone know if anyone has taken a 100% duty cycle 2W and ran it forever to see the life span difference of say 1.7W-2W

I think any diode would eventually get hot, even if it had good enough heatsinking capabilities to do ten minute runs, like my 2d mag, run it for ten minutes with no problems, but if you ran it for an hour, I'm sure it would be dead by then

Labby air cooled. We just need to test life span and if we use proper duty cycle we should be able to come somewhat close to a labby test

personally, I will NEVER run a diode in a handhelf over ten or fifteen minutes, unless somebody donates for for testing

Yeah thats like if you personally Had to crash test your car...

It would be the guys who buy 4 projectors and sell diodes. they could spare 1-2 for the betterment of or hobby's Scientific knowledge. Now that we are pushing them so high as 2W it is about time someone test it out for everyone. And if it's really hurting them I'm sure they could get a collection going and get enough from the forum to test 2

I would like to build a 2W 445 but without knowing what its doing to the diode am going to stick around the 1W range. Its still a massive amount of power for a handheld and its a little easier on the batts :yh:

(at least until some tests are performed to so its safe for the diodes at that level)

It's not. At 2A these diodes start to shut down, that's why people stay at or under ~1.8A
And with a regular aixiz glass lens 1.8A usually gives 1,700mW

Alright, sounds like ill stay around ~1.25-1.3A then but i'll do this build a favor and splurge for one of Jayrob's 405-g-1 lens'. :)

I would be interested in one of these, it is a really cool host. :)
