lol but seriously, Macs are overpriced and a PC can do everything a Mac can and more. With the money you saved with building/buying your own PC, Im pretty sure you would have some money to buy yourself some good antivirus software

Can't write iPhone/iPod apps on a PC, Apple hasn't (and probably won't) released an SDK for Windows.

Well maybe not everything, but PC can do more for a way smaller price tag. Anyways Iphone is crap and ipod is alright.

If I remember correctly, since OSX is based on the Unix, the most stable of operating systems... I have to say through my experience, that OSX stays much faster, for longer.

Even after about 1.5 years of use, my mackbook with its 2 GBs of RAM still runs faster than my Vista Business PC with 4 GB after 3 months.

Hopefully Windows 7 will change that when I get it..

Case and point, OSX requires less CPU, and is more stable.

You don't see many macbooks with >2 GB of RAM simply because they don't really need it.

OSX is also more customizable than many may think, Icon size can be changed, rearranged just like in Windows.

What is this about no full screen abilities?

Keep in mind that Apple hardware can run Windows... and run it well.

Software compatibility is definitely not an issue with a Mac.

I'm a big fan of Apple. I grew up in a apple house hold.
However, I and most of the apple users I know. Are not what most of you guys make us out to be. We all don't think Apple is the greatest thing under the sun.
I recognize my computer, and it's OS. For it's strengths and weaknesses. Just like I can look at Microsoft's OS for it's strengths and weaknesses.

I use both OS X and Windows xp and 7. I also own several computers. Two macs and 1 P.C. and one hackintosh, A Dell mini 9.

I use OS X about 80% of the time. It suites all my needs.
Everything that I ever wanted to do or needed to do was always accomplished. Yes some times I would have to use two third party Apps. To do what I could do with one commercial P.C. App.
For me I always found this fun, having to find the right combination of apps to get the job done. The few times I need to us a P.C. only app. I can just use windows, by dual booting or emulating with Parallels.

Also,
Apple does not hide the fact that it's OS is based on UNIX, like some have commented on.
Apple - Mac OS X - What is Mac OS X?

Thats what is so great about having a computer. You have a choice of many good operating systems. You should not just depend on one. use them all give them all a fair try.

I went with XP and LinX for myself, as i use both depending on what im doing.

My brouther who works for Symantec uses XP and mac.

Windows Mobile Pocket PC, already got one. MacBook doesn't fit in my pocket.

Very nice, but I meant a laptop. I also have a WINDOWS treo sprint phone. So I guess were alike.

I work on computers for a living. I hold degrees in computer science and electronics engineering and I HATE Apple.

Impressive degrees and thats understandable, many people feel that way, and are entitled to there own opinion.

The so-called "virus invulnerability" that Apple touts is nothing more than playing the odds.

At least the odds are in my favor.

Now there are all these Mac snobs running around constantly talking about how superior their systems are and how owning a Mac makes you "extra super cool"..

Im not sure if your calling me a mac snob. First off I didn't start this thread I only gave my opinion..

Lets see. I own

Desktop running Windows XP (which I built with parts purchased from Newegg)
Microsoft Xbox 360
Treo 700W running Windows

I previously used windows 95, 98, and 98se.

Do I really sound biased? I used windows my entire life, so trust me. I know what windows is all about.

I wouldn't own a Mac if for no other reason than I would never want to be those people. I would not want to have to even associate with those people. It's like they honestly believe everything Apple tells them. Come on, people, think for yourselves.

First off part of this statement is ridiculous, but again you are entitled to your own opinion so I respect it. When I decided I wanted a laptop there were a number of things I was looking for. I had no talks with anyone who owns or previously owned a macbook. Never have I read or seen anything, nor do I care what Apple, Steve Jobs, or Bill Gates have to say about anything. I made the decision to buy a macbook because I simply liked them for a number of reasons. The OS was just part of the decision, there were other factors involved.

Your argument is the laughable one. You sound like an arrogant fanboy :wtf: When buying a Mac, you are paying MORE for LESS. There's the #1 reason not to get one. You say you're not into gaming? So you're gonna pay over $1k more not to game and have inferior specs? That makes no sense whatsoever.

Okay lets clear this up.. I bought a laptop not a desktop. My desktop that runs Windows XP is for gaming. It was built for gaming, and is used for gaming. That being said I did not pay more for less as you put it, in the case of my macbook. I love the OS Symphony I really do. I actually like it more a year later than I ever thought I would. Thats the truth. I have not used or seen anything about Windows 7, but it was not out when I made my purchase. Vista was.. In my opinion (were all entitled to one), Vista was terrible, I couldn't stand it. As I stated above some of the features of this laptop which will obviously have features different from a desktop. This includes but is not limited to physical size, screen, battery life, energy consumption, keyboard and mousepad or trackpad in my case, etc.

I didn't just say to myself I hate windows so Im going to spend 1500$ on a macbook. Thats not how it happened at all. I was intrigued by the idea of something new from an OS standpoint. Something different, and possibly better. Everyone buys things for different reasons. I would honestly pay 500$+ just for the trackpad. You might think thats crazy and thats fine. Were chatting on a laser forum, where people spend thousands on laser pointers. In fact I spent 315$ on a 5mW Aquarius from Glenn. Im sure the majority would say your crazy Greg, but thats fine.

Watch this Video:
YouTube - Apple MacBook's Multi-Touch Trackpad

These laptops are fully loaded, there are so many little features that I didn't even know about before I bought it. Its extremely small, the screen is beautiful, the keyboard types great, its simple, but extremely efficient. Its also backlit and is simply adjusted on the keyboard. One of my favorites is the magnetic charger. This feature which is pretty simple, would have saved my mothers laptop from doom when a friend tripped over the cord. Im sure you guys will just say don't put the cord in the way.. well I say shit happens.

I have had Macs crash on me far more times than windows ever has. The fact is Macs CAN become cluttered AND WILL be subjected to slower performance. Damn that spinning wheel!

Hmm thats odd seeing as my laptop has not crashed one time since I have owned it. For some reason it doesn't slow down either which is odd because even on my mega gamer desktop PC i had to reformat the HD like once every 6 months to restore the nice quick feel. Thats real fun. Why hasn't it slowed down yet? I still view the same porn sites, and download torrent files etc. but its still as quick as when I took it out of the box.

You're right, I did have a better PC. Not because of its specs, but because it was running XP. A 2ghz celeron, 256mb ram kicked your stupid iMac's ass on a daily basis.

Unless you actually did a scientific experiment using 2 computers with identical specs, freshly installed OS's, and performing the same tasks, that statement has no validity whatsoever and means nothing to me.

With my current PC, Mac stands no chance, and I built it for several hundred dollars, not several thousand.

Anything you build yourself will be cheaper!! Companies that build stuff have overhead and a profit margin. This is obvious lol. If I built a desktop w/ Windows it would be cheaper than buying a dell at the same specs. So once again thanks for stating the obvious.

Mac shall never win.

Talk about mac fans, you act like this is some game. What is there to win? I didn't buy my macbook because I heard Jesus pissed on it, or because I wanted to be different. Its simply badass.

HAHAHAHA MAN I can't stop laughing!

Thanks Niko..

This is true to desktops, however I disagree with this statement when applied to macbooks.

N3V4R! MUAHAHAH*coughhackcough* >.>

LOL... Windows fanboy. Go start a fanboy club for windows. :drunk:
You can discuss all the new issues and problems Windows 7 OS might bring. Or maybe they made it a more similar to OS X. Would be funny to see someone like you praising windows 7 when its basically the same thing I've been using for the last year.

For all of you who say you can buy or build a windows desktop for less this is true. For both desktops and laptops. Obviously I can build a desktop for less which I did. I can do the same with lasers but Im not sweet like that, so I buy them. The majority cannot build there own pc's so they buy them. This theory applies to a handful of people with the skills to do it. The macbook's separate themselves from this. You DO get your moneys worth with them and Im more than happy with my purchase. Its exactly what I wanted. I looked at a ton of laptops for over 3 months to make an educated decision.

Before I finish, get this. I guarantee you most of you buy things for more all the time. The fancy car, when any running automobile gets you from A to B. The incredibly high priced new Jordan's and nikes when a pair from pay less will do. The over the top fancy cellphones when an any cell phone that makes calls and texts will get the job done. etc etc. etc. So I don't wanna to hear it. Do you think the guy that bought a brand new Lambo cares that you can build a car thats faster for less. Of course not. He has some rare animal as seat cloth, doors that open vertically, more exotic shit etc. This applies to just about everything out there. So maybe criticize apple desktops but don't hoe the macbook's because most likely you don't even know what's included.

I'm quite surprised about how much some of you are getting fired up about this.

The only thing we can pull from this is,

That Windows works great for some people, and not so well for others.

OSX works well for some people, and not for others.

Saying One just IS better than the other is a totally irrelevant thing to say, because being better (In this case) is totally relative. No one computer is better than another simply because we all use them differently.

The point of this thread was to reveal who uses what, and why they do so. This isn't here so we can say Apple or Microsoft is stupid and their users likewise.

What a silly thread to watch!

I'm enjoying this thus far.

@Greg,

I like your points! Very valid and very applicable!

I will never own a laptop if I have to pay more than $100 for it. Even then, I still won't. Perhaps, something like the HTC Shift or Advantage. In a couple years, we'll have hand-helds as powerful as my desktop.

Ya I understand... It's all about needs.. Your desktop / phone combo meets your needs. Im not in college but I want to be, and I'll be bringing my laptop to school. I record music when me and my friends jam out on guitar so it often travels with me. Not even kidding sometimes it go's to the bathroom with me. Kinda took the place of magazines lol, not to mention playing online poker outside, at a friends, or wherever I want to go.

I probably shouldn't have even posted in the first place, I knew I was gonna get called out, but I thought this was a debate, so I debated lol. In hindsight I would buy another one. BTW I love my aquarius 5 ($315) that does nothing except function as a simple laser pointer. Why? I just do. Its hard explaining that to to people as well because they just don't understand... Im sure most of you have been there.

Tell your brother to help Symantec to make an anti-virus software that works.

Also, in case Mac fanboys hasn't noticed....you can buy a pc for $400 to $500 that has the same specs as a $1,300 Mac.

Also....I honestly don't remebmber the last time I got a virus or had my PC crash.

Also....I have had Macs crash on me many times.
