Another Day...Another PHR build

I can see the attraction and benifets from SMT. but I think for most normal people working from home, it would be difficult to solder stuff that small without a diecent Iron and really fine tip. I'm quite lucky as I have all I need at work. But even then I think I would struggle. I'm also left handed, and a bit shaky at times wich only makes it harder.

My soldering skillz aren't to bad. I will take a pic of my circut when I get home to show y'all.

Dude, I work with $4 soldering iron , with DIY regulator :D:D
Tip cost just above $1 a piece.

Works like a charm, soldering SOT23-5 LM3410X very easily.

Anyhow, awaiting some picz :D
 
I also have acheap iron at home, which works well for basic stuff. But i would need a new tip for small stuff. And again, It depends how well you can solder.

THere are some new pics a few posts up. When I get home from work, I'll post some more of the completed build. Its still in a tupperware tub, but a lot smaller. enough room for the Aixiz, 9v battery and the circut. ;) fits real snug. though not so pretty.

Hey Pyro!

as you probably know, when pressing a PHR into the Aixiz module, it has to be recessed in the module in order to focus to infinity. I could only get mines to sit flush to the module, I could not get it recessed.

So after thinking for a while I thought. 'instead of pushing the diode closer to the lens, why not bring the lense closer to the diode'. so I had a root around at work and found those star washers. I took the focus ring of the lens housing, and added 2 of the washers, which fit perfect in the focus fing. then put it back on. This exposed a little more thread, (maybe 2mm.) on the lens allowing it to be screwed in a little further. now it will focus to just beyond infinity. it can be fiddly getting them sitting right. but works a charm!

very nice, Do you know what amps / voltage you're running it at?

Just got my laser glasses in the mail today from hong-kong..Says on them 200-540nm. Will be used for my 250mW green (in mail still) and i noticed, bluray can fall in a 400+ range, and it does actually block the color.

Sorry to thread jack but... jbtm, be careful to ensure you're 250mW has an IR filter. Although the figures say your goggles cover up to 540nm, (pretty close to the 532nm of green), they will not offer any protection to the 808nm IR. With no IR filter on the laser you could be given a false sense of security and actually exposing yourself to high levels of IR. Just going on the figures you show there, (and not knowing any other info so it is based on assumption...), they would be fine for 405nm, (Bluray).Anyway... Good progress Si!!! Yup. It runs off a 9v battery. the diode uses about 4.5-5v at 125mA for around 100mW.

Glad you got your oggles. My mate has a pair of sunglasses that block the 405 verry well. which i use.

so basically, i haven't successfully built a phr yet but i hope to soon as soon as the sled comes

is 125 mA safe for the diode? i don't plan on holding the laser more than 5 seconds each time i fire, as i dont really intend to use for burning and such, just the fact that i can glance at the laser beam when i can during the night. i heard you should only drive them at 100mA

and i have a pot and i dunno if i should add it or not to build
 
Hey Nosebleed, Good luck on your build. Its pretty streight forward once you know how it all goes together.

125mA is concidered 'pushing it' as far as the PHR is concerned. and even more so when you have no heatsink. Mines gets warm after a minute or so of use. 100mA is a more conservitive current. i didn't use a pot. I used a 10ohm resistor to set the current. takes all the guesswork out. a 12 ohm will give you about 100mA or so.
 
yes a 12 ohm resistor with a linear 317 type regulator will give you 100Ma of current
