Adding a focus ring to a TINY pen laser.

Specifically, I want to add a focusing feature to Lazerer's TINY 532nm 150mW laser.

Think this is possible? If so, any suggestions how to go about doing so?

Why do you want to change the focus of it

If you want to have a laser with adjustable focus why not build one,
it will be almost as easy as making that one focus-able.

Probably even easier. A lot of DPSS modules don't lend themselves well to external focusing mechanisms.

I have a feeling the laser might not be able to burn as well as I want it to, so I want to focus it more. It would also be nice if I could loosen the focus for dazzling capability. As well, the laser is already on its way and I love the size of this host :)

So you think the top part of the host can be modified in a way to add a focusing ring? A standard size focusing ring should fit the lens on that TINY right, what do you think?

P.S. Starting with a build this small could be too difficult. I'll be building my first laser in a C6 host with an A-140 once all the parts come in, I might need some help in the process so you'll probably receive some PMs from me guys haha :P

Do you really think that TINY laser is 150mW ? Even focus to a point it won't burn.

Sure it is. Or "sure it could be". They're just sticking a standard module in that thing, with a 10440 cell. The 25mW green DPSS modules are basically the same size as everything until the ~200mW threshold, and a 10440 cell can supply the required current without struggle.

Now that one may or may not be - but there's no reason to think it's not. Lazerer.com's whole deal is that they're supposedly always up to spec.

Now that they're not being as GD obnoxious with getting buyers to spam our forum, I don't mind Lazerer.com as much. In fact, I may buy a laser from them at some point (and it would be one of those tiny greens). As long as you know that it's the same old Chinese junk that will last 6 months and then be a write-off, you won't be disappointed ;)

I don't know what you'd buy that with the intention of burning though.... I mean, I don't get "burning" in any context... but with a pocket 150mW green? That's extra icing on the lame-cake.

Haha, you aren't going to suggest to me any way on how I should go about adding a focusing ring are you?

You can't just add a focus ring. The odds are that your current lens is glued in place. So you would probably break your laser. Listen to the other posters, build one. You're on a DIY website after all.... Just sayin =)

What's the point of building another tiny pen laser if I have to find a way to modify that to incorporate a focusing ring too? It doesn't solve the issue I'm trying to solve and only complicates it further.

Apart from that, I'm aware I can't "just add" a focus ring. I didn't mean stick it on the front, in front of the lens already in place. I meant modifying the front piece to incorporate a focus ring. But are you saying I will break the module/diode in the process? What else must be broken if I were to remove the lens?

Anyway, I don't need very specific advice, just some theoretical suggestions.

first of all.. you didn't build your laser. so to say "build another" is just being lazy and dramatic. your premade/purchased laser has a glued in lens.

if you make a laser your lens will not be glued in so there is nothing to modify.

so before you get all worked up, how about you take time to absorb what is being told to you.

Excuse me? I'm not lazy and dramatic. I wasn't worked up. Now what you just said is starting to work me up.

1) Why are you harping on semantics? I didn't mean to imply in any way, shape or form that I built my Lazerer laser. It was a mis-construction of my sentence. I meant: "building a pen laser", the "another" points to the fact of having 2 similar pen lasers in hand. If you think I implied I built this laser (which I don't see why anyone would think this; it's clear enough that I obviously didn't build it and would NEVER claim to), then you've gravely misunderstood. I use the word "another", because I would need to buy "another pen host". Which leads to my second point...

2) If I were to buy another pen host, then the lens supplied with the pen host will be glued as well right? <-- this is what I've been asking, and you harp on semantics rather than answering a person seeking for help, his question.

If it were glued too, then there is no point in buying a pen host to build my own laser when the same problem is posed in both scenarios: having to modify the front part of the laser to fit a focusing ring. And both scenarios, I would still need the same exact advice from you guys on how to do so.

Now, if the pen host doesn't come with a lens, then great! <-- like I said, I don't know if it does or not. In this case though, I will need some advice on how to put it together as well.

Overall though, I think it's much more logical to learn to do a modification than to construct one from ground up when I have not even a clue how to modify a simple thing.

Please, please try to understand me.

Looking forward to some suggestions,
Ryan

Why would a lens be supplied with a host?

Let alone be glued to it?

Does it? I don't know. If it's a pen host, it would probably come with a module in it as well? I don't know. I'm new and ignorant about this. Can you now grasp the level of understanding I have? It would be really great if you could tone down the expectation and help me stand up. It's perceived to me you guys want me to run when I haven't stood up yet.

I'm sorry for my ignorance but I'm only here to learn. Please try to understand.

Hmmmm? I'm not harping on semantics at all. I clearly told you that no you can not add a focus ring to yours, and clearly explained why. Then I proceeded to clearly tell you that if you want focusing then you should just build your own.

Yes you can buy a premise laser with adjustable focus. If you come across an ad that shows a laser some where in the description it will say. If it doesn't say, then it probably doesn't have it.
So yes, I would say you are worked up. :wtf:

Michael.

You were harping on semantics on the fact that I claimed to build my Lazerer laser, which is just ridiculous. Me saying it is a Lazerer laser should be enough of a "duh".

Anyway, do you know where I would find good pen hosts from United States? You guys seem confident that there are pen hosts that can be built with a focusing ring. I can't find any. A little help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Ryan
