because of the big fuss being made about lasers blinding pilots, lets e-mail the mythbusters about this. lets have them test the myth.

i'm open to your ideas about this.

you'll need lots of different types of lasers :P how about "what is the lowest power laser that can blind a plane"

Read around in the off topic section, i posted a thread with Adam and Jamie's email addy's....

they'd probably find out how much light is needed to blind and use a meter through a cockpit at a distance.

Yea you know, this is a pretty good idea. They have tons of stuff to test and take into consideration, like how hard it is to actually get it in the cockpit, hold it on a moving target really far away, divergence , etc...They could come up with how much chance there really is for "mass murder" :P

But, as some of you may know, sometimes even the mythbusters can be swayed by their network/bosses one way or another. So, this could totally backfire, with the end result being even more media attention to lasers. Also, stupid kids will watch this and be like "wow I can hit a plane with one??!?!" and proceed to buy one and point it at planes.

So... its tough to say which way it might go. Either way, the laser issue has been flying under the radar fairly well lately here in the US, and who knows what this might do to disrupt that.

Planes should be equipped with a 50kW laser turret to shoot back at anyone who fancies a little 'plane-pointing'.

i like the 50kW idea !! and it'd be a big CO2 laser so the person didnt know why they had caught on fire ;D

Yeah... uh... that would just kinda make planes more tempting for hijackers...

Screw terrorists, even I'd hijack a plane with a 50kw laser on the top of it! :D

Careful what you say. I spent the night with an OSI investigator once because of an offhand joke.

Peace,
dave

indeed, in the age of the patriot act, you can be investigated for the silliest things.

Ah, but you see, I'm not american ;)

Your crazy government may go paranoid about terrorists, but mine doesn't :)
