9mm Dry build 2.3W 1.829A

That's incredible, man! +1 rep for that good work! I've got one question... how did you hold that monster in the mini lathe without gouging the aluminum?

I typically make up collets to solve that problem, but I'm wondering if you know something I don't. I'm learning how to do turn things myself.

Well, when I was done I had some lines not to bad though I just turned it around and used some fine cloth like the back of a sponge cleaner to spin it flipped it to repeat. Thanks for the kind words. I would try anything bigger in that little lathe, but it works fine for this laser stuff.

Hey just curious where did you get the battery holder for the saik and did you have to bore out the barrel? I just tried 2 x 18650's side by side and they wont fit! Im currently using the standard holder with 14500's and would prefer 2 x 18650 ;)

That's because this isn't a sAik host its a dry host. Look at the pick with the heatsink in the sAik head. No way will you get a 3 18650 pack into a sAik.

I finally broke down and bought a 9mm from DTR today. This is going to be my biggest build yet so this time I think I have to take pictures of my progress. I'm hoping, as we all do, for a beast diode but I wont know until I have it hit a LPM when its finished. I decided to put it in an Ultrafire L2 and power it at 2.2A so it should crank out some mean photons. I have to admit the build on this page spurred me to get one for myself. The outputs these 9mms give are just immense.

Hey great build. I'm thinking of doing one of these because in my welding class there are a few lathes but I need to find the dimensions and also more information about which driver to use.

Awesome build, Jander! You just gotta love that much metal in your hand! I may come to you for machining!

Thanks SB... I was thinking of overhauling this with the new 3A foulmist driver I got back 2 weeks ago. If any sink will protect a 9mm at 3A it's going to be this one.:anyone:

At 3A you are dangerously pushing the bond wires from testes that I have seen. On top of that you are also likely going to wear the crystal facets and cause quick diode degradation. Basically what I'm saying is temperature may not be your problem at that current.

EDIT: Also, I ran a 9mm at 3A+ while on a TEC unit and saw little to no gains at around 3A.

That is if it even runs. Most of these shut down around 2.7A/2.8A.

YES, yes I know muhaaaa.... It was a thought guys I might I might not I can't remember if I binned it I have to look at my build notes according to this thread it's nothing speacial through.
