what's the difference between 8 and 12x diodes? is there any? I think someone said it's the same diode, so how is it?

I know, I was asking about the difference in DIODESSomeone correct me if I am wrong, 8x means harvested from an 8x burner, 12X means harvested from a 12x burner.
The faster the burner can write to the disc, the higher the mw output capability of the diode.
50% faster write speed should mean a comparable increase in output power of the diode.
The faster the burner can write to the disc, the higher the mw output capability of the diode.

Members have blown both 8X's and 12X's at the same currents.
The tests that IgorT is running has shown that the 8X can survive for at least 60 hours "on" at ~360mA. The first 12X he ran failed at ~390mA .
We have VERY FEW 12X builds running, certainly too few to make any assumptions.
Don't the 12X diodes require slightly more voltage then the 8X? If so that's a measurable difference between the diodes. It kind of shows they are a different diode, but does not show any given increase in safe power levels. Just a thought
Read more carefully. Some are pulling higher voltage. Some are not. The differences between the didoes are staying withing the same "percentage" ranges as we have seen in violet diodes all along. The differences "look" more pronounced to us because the absolute numbers are larger. However, the percentages are not significantly different.
I am NOT saying that they are the same diodes. I am saying that we cannot answer this question yet. People are trying to decide whether to buy the 8X or pay more for the 12X based on these answers. We cannot give them these answers yet.
You pays your money -- You takes your chances
You push a 12x harder than a 8X -- You take the chance it will fail sooner
That's all
I push them all the time. However, I am not "hurt" nor do I blame someone else when they fail. I can buy and install a new one. I don't get angry with anyone because they gave me bad advice or sold me a "weak" diode. Experiments fail. If that is OK with you, run with it. If that would hurt you, accept the more conservative outlook.
**note** The use of the "second person" (you) is NOT making the statement aimed at any one poster. It is just gramatically very awkward to use the third person in statements like this. English sucks.
Peace,
dave
Dave, with that being said what do you do with all your drives that you have parted out?
Do you have a functional blue ray writer? or even use these? Just wondering.
Diodes Don't draw voltage ... Period. They draw current as the voltage applied allows.
