8x Sleds Available (possibly)

amkdeath

I am currently testing the Claimed "8x" J-P diodes. They have more than one.

Will keep you all updated. Kenom is helping out a bunch too

I know enough about this stuff to know that you can't trust any single point of data - for all we know, the one sent for a sample is a hand-picked or "real" 8X sled, taken from a known 8X drive. That way, a reputable member confirms some extremely good results, then we all launch ourseles at getting the verified "8X sleds" for a brilliant price, and there turn out to be hundreds of orders. Then, we find out that he has some trash sleds and they're worth next to nothing. PayPal won't even do a charge-back if the money isn't in your seller's account, and the guy organising the GB is up against a wall, with PayPal debt collectors demanding the money from his account that he doesn't even have.

You may think this unlikely, but didn't one of Amk's GBs fail because the seller overrated some sleds as 6X when they were really the 4X sled? And, since the seller contacted him, I am guessing that this is the same supplier as the one for his previous GB. I'd procede with caution...

The GB failed because the seller said he had the actual 6x's in stock, but when i collected all of the orders he suddenly said "No, I don't have any more in stock".

The GB participants waited some, and I ended up pitching over from my pocket to refund everyone. Then, just my luck, as soon as i closed the GB he suddenly "Had them in stock" again.

Sorry, double post and threadjack.

So far I have not seen any signs of "8x"ness, but no vigorous testing performed yet.

Ahh so you are Amir. And thanks also Kenom. BTW sorry I haven’t attended to this thread lately… ever since Cold updated LPF, I wasn’t able to log in until he gave us that red message that allowed us to reset our passwords.

No problem. Hey do you think you could give us a mA/mW graph of the diodes? How high up have you tested them? Are you testing both sleds or did Jack only send you one of them?

Yeah I'm not a fan of Jinpenglaser. I'm using the supplier that supplies jinpeng

You should drop us a name or site :D :D :D

Haha just kidding. If you wanna' keep your supplier secret, you can do so.

so did anyone ever find the results of these?

I was given 2 of these mystery sleds and am about to test them, just curious if I need to do all the work for it or if someone else has.. I guess I'll PM AMK.

edit:
Alright at 40mA the diode turns on and is blu ray. I'm going to crank it up and start measuring :)

Ok got the results. Looks like it is a 4x or somewhere around that. Max was 199mW at 426mA, it did not last long at that current or power.
It was most stable at around 200-230mA at was putting out around 150mW.

Maximum
199.7178 mW
Averages
mA mW
57 35.51011667
116 89.53152857
153 122.702131
201 156.2126933
230 152.9428691
284 172.7773227
320 190.2671818
354 188.0887895
426 188.9765483

These results were found using my LPM-1, a Rkcstr driver, and having the diode in the original heat sink that it comes with in the sled. Measurements were unfocused 405nm so when focused you can expect a decrease in power as there is some loss.

Hey sk8er4514,
no amount of testing is wasted...
you just confirmed the value of the LD in that sled... Thanks..;)

Very nice work! Thanks for doing this, it was a long wait and I think you were the only person who would’ve tested them. It is a shame that they’re weak, but it wasn’t unexpected. The diode seems to have pretty bad efficiency though… only 150mW at 230mA? A PHR puts out that much at around 150-180mA, right? Well I’m glad you tested them. Thanks!

agreed.. i wish i would have known this before doing all that work though

oh well

No work is pointless if it answers a question. And you answered if this was an 8x diode or not. So it’s good you did this. :)

but they want 215$ for shipping 50 each phr and lpc...not that much of a bargain...

Its like they're shipping plutonium or a solid brick of lead.

Yea, I know its a pretty bad deal. Plus he stopped messaging me. So this is kinda' pointless. It's not like we were getting a bargain anyways...
