I want to make a 635nm red pointer from a 660nm red. The easiest way was to buy a red 5mW red pointer and swap the diode to a 635nm version. They share the same pinout, voltage and hopefully the same current.
I bought the 635nm diode from Modwerx and the pen from dealextreme.
This is how the dismantled red pointer looks like. The hard thing was to remove the frontcap but it was done by clamping it between 2 pieces of wood and hold it in a bench.
The existing current was 35mA, the dot is hardly visible in bright light.
Turning the pot makes little difference, just a few mA up and down.
On the backside was a resistor soldered to the pcb. I change this from existing 10Ohm to 2.1Ohm. Now the driver delivers 55mA
Don't forget to tape the aixiz module and add the brown wire to make contact to the positive side of the battery.
Nice and shining 635nm red pointer. I hope you like it.
