Hello community!
Today I finally put my "sayno" 635nm 40mW ebay diode into a host!
I used the driver from a greenie ebay pointer, because it is a negative regulator,
and these diodes are case positive, just like IR diodes.
Furthermore, the diode's pinout is the same as the IR pump diode's.
All I had to do was figure out the driver's output current and pot-mod
it for a comfortable ~110mA.

So there you have it, diode's pins trimmed to size, into an Aixiz-module you go.
And that "collar" is the original "heatsink" from the host.

I superglued a support to the driver board, so I don't have to fear about stressing
the diode's pins when pushing the button. Spring trimmed.

Everthing put back together.

Ta-daaaah!!
Runs off a 14500.
Jealous much? :D

Where did you find out a good current limit? I haven't seen much info on these 635nm diodes.

OK, there was something important missing on this one.

Ah, much better now!

Oh yeah and some obligatory BEAMSHOTS (gratuitous shepherd included!).

Humm. I have a box full these..more than i can count. I'll send you 3 pens can you send 1 back running at <100mw ?

What do you mean? Do you have a box full of these diodes?

I didn't think so...:(
So you have a few of these hosts then, and would like me to make
you a red laser out of one of them?

I would, but I don't have another one of these particular diodes, and I don't know
if I ever will get one again.:cryyy:

I could make you a 650nm red one though, no problem.

How did you figure out the drivers current? Are you running it on a 3v of 3.7v 14650?

I figured the current like it's usually done, hooked that greenie driver to a testload.:D
It runs on either 2x AA alkalines or NiMh (with th extesion tube), or a single 3.7V 14500.
