Just wanted to share the crystals I got! well worth the money. they're new, from a large coherent auction apparently, and go to a Coherent Novus Varia system. ($300,000+ for medical purposes)

That is one big yag slab! as big as the doublers are in most of my other lasers!

Nd:YAG for 1123nm 2x2x12mm
KTP with DBAR coatings 1123nm/561nm 3x3x5mm

Got a pump for them yet? :D Keep us updated on the progress, would love to see a DIY 561nm laser.

well I'd need alot to pump that yag fully. I could in theory do it with a few watts for a bit of output...561nm is more efficient than 473 actually....but worse than green...but its a bit more picky on temps. but I need mirrors, which will not be cheap. the novus I was told uses around 30W stack of to pump it to get over a watt of 561. so if I find good mirrors, I could make one hell of a 561nm laser! but I'd need a plethora of optics to get that, and very good heatsinking.

i'd need an HR that is AR808/HR1123/HR561 and an OC that is HR1123/AR561. I'd also need mounts for everything, and some prep lenses....not gonna be cheap. so for now i'll just have to hang onto them.

How much did those beauties lighten your wallet, if I may ask?

Nice , is the Nd:Yag side pumped or end pumped ?

You can do either to most crystals.

It was more with regards to the Nd:Yag you have , I know that the Nd:Yag can be side pumped usually by CCP diodes or similar .

I guess for this it could be pumped from both ends in a angled cavity or just one end , other wise for side pumping it would need to be AR 808nm coated down the side ?

Best power extraction would come from a z-fold cavity. But flash pumping or end pumping will work for excitation. I would prefer to end pump it if I can, but not sure just yet.

That's a very large YAG.

The user who knows what they're doing will aim to design a simple side diode pumped z-fold cavity for it. This will require wide diode bar array. The users with fiber coupled 808s and 880s would be able to find appropriate optics for end pumping rather quickly however.

May have to experiment though, if dopant level and polarizations are not marked on the piece.

This pretty much sums up my thought process.

That one is a bit long for end pumping, unless it has very low dopant levels. rocketman340 has a good
YouTube video showing a side pumping setup, though with a round crystal, but it doesn't make much
difference. In the meantime, the 1064/532 crystal has arrived and it isn't a bonded set like I had thought.
These little 3x3x5 KTP crystals can achieve over 15W of output with enough cooling.

Yeah a little goes a long way. And as long as the crystal is saturated it'll work well. I've end pumped a long one. You just have to prep the beam well. Wha I was thinking of doing was a zfold, As mentioned above. But I still need mirrors first. I have found an OC, still finding an HR. I've got a few people helping me look.
