Angelos seems to say otherwise. He has stated in his FS thread that the v6 x-drive is able to be paralleled.

However, many members have had negative results when paralleling the v6 x-drive (with the exception of styropyro,
maybe he can chime in and shed some light on the matter). IWIRE explained what happened when he attempted to parallel two x-drives.

I was told not to run the X-Drive in parallel. Is it a different version of the x-drive I am thinking of?

I was told the same thing. I tried it anyway :crackup: One drive would always start getting OMG hot. When perfectly balanced it would work for a little while then one drive would start getting hot. I tried X-Drives and BlitzBucks. Same thing with both of them. Maybe I was doing something wrong. The only thing I could get to parallel successfully were boost drives.

I'll echo what DTR said, which is that we need clarification from Lazeerer as to why the x-drive behaves like this (he hasn't been on in ages though).

I'm not going to open source the 5A buck for now. On reflection, while I'm perfectly happy using drivers I make for my own builds, I don't want the responsibility of them being in someone else's. Better that that be left to the driver designers who've made thousands, instead of dozens, of drivers

I'm thinking that unless Angelos makes a reappearance with more information it's back to 3.4 amps. I'm just not sure if that smaller, extra power gain over the standard 9mm diode is going to be worth that uglier wide beam? At 5.5 watts it becomes more appealing.

That's very true. If you set it up at 3.4a get 4.5w then have to use a 3 element lens to get an acceptable beam. Your back to 3.5w
But if you push it to as high as you can then use a 3 element, it almost seems worth it The lpm reading with a G2 is really impressive but that's about all that's impressive. It's still a flame thrower with a 3 element and has a nice beam.
The beam has to be pretty bad for me to notice because I have no idea what I'm really looking at :crackup:

Thanks all! I have decide to hold on the high power single diode laser, and instead go with a dual diode host with an additional red targeting beam.

The new diode is an impressive novelty. But to me what you just described is more impressive as a build. I'm starting to get bored with single diode builds. That's what is so cool about this hobby. I still have optics, drives, multi-diode builds. Still a lot for me to explore

Agreed. The best I have found is 3.9a driver, and have seen nothing at 4.0a or 4.2a. Have found several that state they are 5a, but nothing in the 4a range. At 3.9a mine is supposed to be 5.7w to 5.8w, but I can't confirm that as my lpm is 3.7w.
Would be nice to see other drivers available.

I'm not aware of anything available to run this diode at over 4a. I had to use two boost drives to power mine. It would be awesome to do a build with a buck drive. With boost drives mine is pulling almost 6a at the tailcap.

That's a pretty efficient diode 5.7w at 3.9a. I wish mine would have been. I might have to get another one and try again. I was really wanting an actual 6w. I got close but no cigar.

Hi was wondering if you ever found that 4A driver you were looking for. I just read an old thread you posted. I'm building with that 3.5 Nichia diode and I found one. But it's 20mm round . It's not from lazerers but from a guy out in Tennessee. Comes with leads And a spring .
