48hr No Sleep

I think the longest stint I've done is about 30 hours, and even after then I was absolutely knackered. I could hardly think rationally, or do something that would be considered mundane and basic. I'd be able to sleep from about 5pm to 10am + the next say, so that's, what, 17 hours? I'd feel amazingly refreshed after a sleep like that as well.

In the hospital. Quite a few people with bad pain couldn't sleep and it was very severe.

Your brain fills with spinal fluid while asleep to wash out all the excess proteins and chemicals. It is essential or you die. :D

Im guessing adderall, and/or cocaine. Tell me if Im close

Prescription amphet salts, so basically yes, and zero coke. Plenty of caffeinated pepsi, often with vodka. To be honest I probably would have done coke at the time, but I was also a very very broke, and cheap college student.

Not sure what the best stay awake options are now days, but the last one I tried (again legally with a prescription) was provigil, aka modafinil. Works very well but has three frustrating side effects (one arguably very useful). Granted I took doses that are higher than what was recommended for bomber pilots. (Toxicity level is very high with it iirc.)

I expect by now there are probably better legal and illegal options out there, with meth being the most obvious illegal option, but I will be staying the hell away from it, along with most legal and all illegal drugs, and highly suggest doing the same. (Currently I limit my vices to bad food once a week or so, social drinking couple of times a month, a very rare cigarette, and a hookah 1-2 times a month.)

Quitting cigarettes in college, and changing my diet the last five month has been hard enough... I can only imagine the hell those truly addicted to harder stuff go through.

Why, Mr. bloom? If you needed to get things done, fine, I understand. But I don't see the appeal of doing it for shits.

It's a little bit longer.

I've read about few extremely rare people like those, and watched a documentary or two.

Apparently they do not require full length sleep BUT do doze off for just a couple of minutes frequently through out the day, somewhat explaining their condition.

Also, reasonable guess (mine :p ) is that all the maintenance of your body you get during your sleep (healing rate, chemical rebalance, bla bla), they are having constantly, maybe at bit slower rate.

Something the FFI sufferers are unable to have, unfortunately.

I'm no good at these things. I don't think I've ever been awake longer than 20 hours or so.

I stayed awake 96+ hours on adderall once. Actually, it was just a couple of months ago. I've stayed awake 72+ hours on it multiple times. It starts to get unpleasant after the second full day, and by the time I reached 72 hours I was experiencing minor visual hallucinations. Generally things, e.g. walls, seem to "breathe" as often happens when tripping on psychedelics. I also tend to see things like shadows flittering on the edges of my peripheral vision.

If you've ever played "Don't Starve", the effects of low sanity are actually very close to what I actually experience. Sounds get weird, and there are the shadowy things on the edge of my vision. During the day it's not as noticeable, but at night the effect is more pronounced.

I don't stay up like this as often as I used to. It probably isn't very good for me.

I had very similar experiences this past weekend except that I WAS using psychedelic mushrooms. I just remember going into the bathroom, and the walls weren't breathing, but the wallpaper was melting and changing colors a bit.

I also thought it was interesting that right as I touched the live plant in the bathroom I immediately remember a Grasshopper I saw earlier in the day. I usually just leave things like that alone, but for some reason this one caught my attention.

So this is a special moment. Just hit my 48 hour mark :)

Why? Shits and gigs mostly. Combined with general curiosity.

^ Your body, your choice. But the damage it does is cumulative and lots of it will cause premature aging. Just ask long haul truckers.

Don't wreck your circadian rhythm. Some are on drugs like Ambien after working heavy duty night shifts. Take care.

I don't remember much of it after a certain point. Though there was a LOT of Call of Duty as after a certain point, there wasn't shit else to do.

I mean, I don't know many people awake from 0300-1000 on the weekends, that's also sober. So there's that. A majority of it was a solo journey.

Though I did livestream the entirety of it that was done on CoD. Met some new followers, and played with some old friends. A lot of cool people stuck around for a lot of it (getting a good night's sleep or two in there somewhere).

Overall, it was ... Interesting.

Would I do it again? Not likely. There was really no point to begin with. It was impromptu to even do a 24hr, then 36, then 48. It just kinda ... happened.

A lot of "f*** it" determined a majority of it.

Currently still recovering. Slept for 15 hours, woke up still tired. Going to watch some Netflix and pass out for a nap. Hoping to get back on sleep schedule tonight, and with 8-10hr of sleep, plus melatonin, should be back on track. Not using the later to fall asleep. Just using it to tell my body to get back on this sleep cycle.

What are you playing? Xbox or playstation ?

Interesting experiment bloom. Pretty big numbers up there^^^ 36, 48, 52 hours... That's nuts.

I remember reading about a balloonist who circle navigated the globe in a hot air balloon. The article states: "The actual gondola itself was no larger than a normal sized closet. Fossett would on average, manage about 4 hours of sleep each day, in broken down segments of 45 minutes Naps."

That's gotta be rough.
I have insomnia, without taking XanaX every night I would average 4-5hours of sleep a night if I slept at all. My body requires 7hours to function properly other people maybe different.

Since we're on the subject of long term deprivation... anyone tried fasting?

I've done 2-4 days several times, and one week once, so far, I'm kind of tempted to try for over a week. Every time before, a social obligation would lead me to have to stop.

I feel kind of stupid for asking. But why do you fast? I don't see how it could be good depriving yourself of food. Then once you finally eat your metabolism is probably very slowed down.

Just curious as to if there are any benefits of this, or you do this just because.
