Ok, here is my 445nm brick :D

I have another diode and an aixiz glass on it's way for my scanner, and I was having so much fun with this one I thought i'd make it a little neater.

Specs: It has power control! I have a 1 ohm 5W resistor to set the low point (1.2A), and a 5 ohm 15W potentiometer for adjustment. This gives me an output range of just below lasing, to close to 1W (After crappy acrylic lense).

As you can guess, I used a LM317 driver. It has a 8 AA battery holder, as well as a DC in jack.

You can tap the red button lightly for a momentary flash, or push it down and it latches for hands-free.

Diode is in an aixiz module, which is inside one of those 70mW DX red heatsinks and screwed to the enclosure (die cast Aluminium)

Even with the acrylic lense (which somehow hasn't melted yet), a single quick tap of the button can light matches.

Although, the acrylic lenses totally suck for good looking dots and divergence, thus why I decided to make a porta-labby with this one, and save the A140 diode and glass for my scanner :)

I was making a video and the batteries went flat, so I'll do it again and upload a bit later| EDIT: . I was planning to add a keyswitch, but my budget didn't stretch to it today, so I just need to be very careful how accessible it is for now.

I love these diodes (Well, not the multimode dot) :)

Cheers,
Dan

When I read the title, I thought you "bricked" the diode lol

Does the headphone style plug supply the power? I've never used those style plugs for power plugs because the leads short when you plug it in/out.

I thought the same thing. I guess we won't find out what firmware V2 of 445nm looks like :p

It's just a regular DC jack. The socket does indeed look like a headphone jack. I saw them in the shop, and thought since they have a nut on them, they'd be easier to mount to this box :D
EDIT: Video up :D

nicely done. My black box was a LM317 driver with a 25-ohm Rheostat. Depending the voltage I use, I was able to set its max out, usually 7V input, and its full range gave 0mA to 1050mA. Sadly I kicked the diode out into a portable host now :D Nice job getting a candle to light...Every time I tryed so far the wick burns away and just smokes like hell.

Nope, not burn marks. There are burn marks though. The big black part on top if just paint.

As for the matches, not a single question :)

I've bought several cans of lighter gas from one shop before.

Gee, sure got some strange looks that time. Next time I'll keep my pencil torch in my shirt pocket?

Nice, I've been looking to get one of those 70mW DX lab reds for the heatsink, but whenever I have a look on the page, it says they are temp. sold out -_-

on the subject....my labby is 98% done. all i need to do is set current and put the diode in :)
