Hi, just wondering if the color difference between the 405nm, 445nm and 450 nm is noticeable, I am looking for a legit answer plz, no I think or theoretically.

I know that it varies as some of us may not have as good eye sight, but some one who had all the three lasers could tell the differences. I just want to get people's personal experience as they are mostly unbiased, then I will speak to DTR who is a great guy! and a laser Wikipedia ;)

To me 405nm is pretty dim and purple, I'm not a big 405nm fan. I had a 500mW 405nm and it wasn't all that amazing to me.

On the other hand 445 is a nice blue color.

The different between 445 and 450 could be negligible because the diodes can run a few % in either direction (So a 445nm could easily be 447nm and a 450nm could be 448nm).

There is a fairly big difference between 445nm and 405nm, but not so much between 445/447/450

Hope this helps!

405 to 445...yes definite difference. My 405s have a purplish dot and a very faint beam at night that's almost invisible. My 445s are blue...not purplish at all. A really good solid electric blue...the more powerful blue ones I have clearly show a visible blue beam that is gorgeous.

445 to 450...no discernible difference I wager

I recently bought a laser on ebay that was listed as 460 nm and compared it to my 445 nm lasers...no color difference. So either I was tricked into buying a mislabeled 445 (entirely possible) or there is no visible difference in color between 445 and 460.

And you didn't mention 473nm but I finally got my 473 day before yesterday. I know everyone says it looks like a sky blue and I guess the dot does but to me the beam looks like a very purty turquoise. I was afraid I wouldn't see much difference between 445 and 473 but I was wrong and 473 is the most pleasant color to look at of all the lasers I've got...it's almost soothing.

Hey norbie, thanks for posting man! It was really helpful. I owe a 2.5W custom 445nm the beam is very beautiful, I want to collect al the laser that falls into the 400s category, you mentioned 473? I had no clue it existed. Just wondering if you could please list all the different wavelengths of the laser which I could purchase online.
So far I know the 445 and 405.

I seem different color green lasers and red lasers as well? if you know all the different lasers in the green and re category could you please list their wavelengths as well, thanks man!

You're Raped ;)

Well some don't come cheap, not even slightly.
For those that are affordable, there are
473nm DPSS
488nm argon (or OPSL, look for novalux in the B/S/T section)

Note 488nm is by no means portable.

As for the more expensive blues, you can get 435nm (DPSS) 457nm (DPSS) 458nm (argon multiline) 480nm (DPSS) and 491nm (DPSS). You can get all of the DPSS listed here from CNI.

_______________________

As for green, there are the new 510nm diodes (can be purchased for ~$340), 523nm DPSS (expensive), 532nm DPSS (cheap), 543nm (HeNe), 556nm (expensive), and 561nm (expensive).

As for red, there are 635/638nm diodes, 640nm diodes, 650nm diodes, 671nm DPSS, and 685nm diodes.

uh...well...a lot...less so if you want them in a laser pointer :)

there is a clear color difference between my m140, osram pl450b, and my 458nm argon. not a Lot, but it's there. i'll work on some photos altho i'm not sure if they will show what i see.

I can see a very(and I mean VERY) slight difference between my M140 and my Osram PLTB450 which are 445nm and 450nm respectively. The Osram is the slightest bit lighter blue at the same output.

As for 405nm and 445nm there is a giant difference in color.

Unless you are totally loaded on cash you will be sort of limited to the common wavelengths of:
405nm - Violet
445nm/450nm - Blue
473nm(if you are lucky and find a very good deal) - Light Blue
532nm - Green
635nm/638nm - Red-Orange
650nm - Red

@norbie Well out of my list of "possible in a handheld" I meant the more unusual colors fitting in the RGB list. Most people don't see 561nm or 671nm in portables, 473nm and 510nm are more well-known, as for the rest we know those well... except... Where'd you see the 460nm...? There's no diode/DPSS I know of that does that?

Yeah I was unclear what you were trying to convey.

I purchased a laser pointer on ebay that was listed as 460. To me it looked just like 445.

The LaserTo website also claims to sell 460s. But their website looks crappy so I don't know if I trust them.

Maybe I should have put a disclaimer that lasers are being sold as 460s but I can't verify their authenticity.

dumb question...Is it possible to get a 561m laser pointer? Or is that just a theoretical possibility as of now?

I know Dragon Lasers sells a 671nm spartan laser.

Between 445nm and 450nm isn't much difference. I can't see any color differences. Maybe the brightness may trick your mind and you think you see 450nm is another color.
The differences between 405nm, 450nm and 473nm is much greater.
