$4.35 405nm eBay pen SUPER OVERSPECT Must see!!

Got mine today... (I've ordered 1x532nm and 2x405nm) What can I say, the lasers themselves have got the "cheaper" feeling to it, if comparing with DX pen style laser. However, the lasers themselves are quite cool. I don't have a LPM, so I can't measure it, but the greenie is probably around 5mW, while the 405nm are way higher... Comparing them to my other 405nm, which is 7mW and which I've bought from DJNY a while ago, they are way stronger. My guess, it is about 40mW. I tried to pop a black a balloon, but it failed (either balloon is too strong or I couldn't manage to find the "infinity point"). I have also tried (a stupid, very stupid thing which I would never ever reccommend doing) pointing the 405nm at my hand. After a few seconds it began to hurt (getting hot) so I guess it is not as weak as it may look like :) In overall, I am satisfied with the products, although the greenie could be a little bit better.

it said it left the customs but after that no other tracking info was provided...It might even be at my mail box right now...

This isn't from the original seller... but I have 2 more blu ray lasers that will be from the original seller and a special module, that might not make it past customs...

I got one of the blu ray lasers in, not from this seller but a different one.

When I put the batteries in and hit the button the dot would go bright but then very dim.

I figured I got a bad laser. I put the batteries in backwards and it did nothing..I then put the batteries back in the correct way like the first time I tried it and then it started working as normal. Bright dot and doesn't get dim.

I'll know in a week or two when the 2 laser I got from this seller will get here, and compare the two.

Then I'll modify one of them to make over 100mw.

Right!^
Be prepared to be disappointed with your "100mW modded" dead lasers.
The diode will probably just die instantly seeing how they all are being pushed to the max already.
Just enjoy the "safer" laser.

I'm not talking about pot moddding the laser:)

I'm replacing the module with a proven 100-150mw module.

That is a waste of the green module. You can better build it in a bigger host. Like this one,

I'm going for the more pocket pointer, not a bulky flashlight pointer. I do have a different host I can put it into with a focusing lens but for now I'm going to add it to a simple pen style host.

It wouldn't be a waste as I have a green pen style host I bought years ago that simply quit working.

I ordered 2 of the ~$4.80 ones and 2 of the ~$5.50 ones. I doubt there is anything different other than some random price; but it'll be interesting to compare side by side. Too bad I don't have a LPM; I'm curious what the output will be.

I received my lasers last night. Both greens are pretty bright, well over 5mW with good divergence. One is at least 10mW more powerful than the other. Same with the blues. Well over 5mW, and one is noticeably brighter than the other (10mW+). Shipping wasn't too bad. It took about 3 1/2 weeks get to me in the midwest (Shipped 10/2, received 10/26).

The beam on the 532s is slightly visible in a dimly lit room, and very visible in a dark room. The beam is also very visible outside if there isn't a lot of light pollution. The 405s are impossible to see with even little lighting, but when the room is dark the beam is clear (as well as at night in low light). The divergence on the 405s is pretty bad, though.

I don't have an LPM, so I can't give any exact measurements. I might borrow my friend's DSLR later and take some beam shots.

Overall, I'm very satisfied with my purchase. 4 decently powerful lasers for under $20 is a steal.

Does anyone have recommendations for some good rechargeable batteries for these pointers? I was thinking about some Sanyo Eneloops or Sanyo 1000mAh Superlattice Alloy Evos. Also, any charger recommendations?

Well sounds like you got yourself a plan (:
But it probably stopped working because of heat issues. Which is basically what we were getting at (at least me).
That's why we thought it was impractical. You could save yourself some diode life by heat sinking that mother trucker (:

I played with it for a few days and put it back in it's case. I just a few days ago put fresh batteries in it and it didn't power up.

Don't worry I never left the old batteries in the laser pointer, that is one way to corroded the contacts and have the batteries leak.

I'll see how it works out with the new module installed and compare it to the over spec ebay ones.
