Hello, i was browsing ebay and came across a laser that i really like.
Now the ebay post says it is a 3.5W laser that uses only 1 battary...

This is the laser

Wicked Burning Laser Pointer Blue 445nm | eBay

I already contacted the seller asking if he can proof if it's 3.5W

What do you guys think? is this really 3.5W or can't this even be close to it?
If it is really that power or a little less then i want to buy it ^^

I know you can't tell by pictures but perhaps someone here knows this type of laser.

I highly doubt it. For 3 W you will need at least a 9 mm diode..those are sold alone, for almost the same price that is being asked here for the laser. If it sounds too good...:(

Figures don't lie but, lairs can figure. More sales hype and very little fact. What's that other
old saying, "If It Seems Too Good To Be True It Probably Is".

At that price? And with batteries, charger, and safety glasses? This is a cheap Chinese laser that is more likely 1W. If it were 3.5W I would expect it to cost at least $300.

The seller told me he doesn't have a LPM at his house.
This makes me doubt that this laser is brand new and unused.
So if it is secondhand then the price should be about right?

I also doubt that it is 3.5W but if it is 1 - 1.5W then the price would still be worth it i think considering he adds a charger and everything else needed.

Although i would ask him to not send the batteries with the laser... i tried ordering lithium batteries online a few times before and non of them ever passed costums... I still wonder why? ^^ it's just batteries what's the big deal? :P

Yeah the price is probably about right. We have the same trouble here with Li-Ion batteries, USPS doesn't like them so they have to be shipped FedEx, I guess they are considered hazardous.

Yes i think so too yet i do not understand why..
They won't even allow such batteries to be in your hand baggage in a plane ^^''

O-like is selling 3.5 watt diodes for $600, so any legit 3.5 watt laser would have to cost a lot more than that.

I have seen lithium batteries explode, it's extremely unpleasant. It's less like an explosion, and more like a big ball of fire that burns your house down. "POOF!"

Aw :S i seem to have high explosives in my house then ^^''
The seller kinda confirmed to me that the laser is secondhand so that could explain the low price.

It now says 2 batteries

I don't know what the bidding started at, but at $250+ it is a huge gamble. Unknown spec, unknown builder with unknown experience, unknown quality of parts, 0 feedback as seller and only 8 as buyer.

For $49 more (ok, $79 including shipping to Netherlands)... Rick Trent sells a 3.4-3.5W 445nm on ebay for $299. That's brand new, known spec, plus he is proven reputable and will stand behind it if DOA.

Or Eitan (Sci-Fi Lasers) sells a 2.5-3W Terminator for $225. Again, brand new, guaranteed spec, he has a great reputation and will stand behind it. Great duty cycle, too, and at 2.5-3W the diode will likely last a lot longer than one driven to 3.5W (if that ebay one really is 3.5W).

I would definitely consider one of those choices -- or building -- rather than rolling the dice with $250+.

I know UPS started restricting li-ions through their system after two plane caught on fire because of li-ion batteries.
