I'm planning on building a LG GH22NP20 Red Diode into Aixiz Housing. But some questions are left:
Does anyone know, if the IR Diode is usable, cause it would surely increase fun ;D
And second, what current is safe, I thought something like 400mA? Is it possible to further :-?

sure u can use the ir diode

and yes 400 mA should be ok however i would start at 300 and work your way up

Meant if it's an ugly diode, or usable xD
Will let you guys know, when I receive the DVD Drive...
Edit:
I bet it's around 200mW, so does it have a visible beam at night?

yes the 22x LG has the LPC-815 open can diode in it. (like $24 from newegg)

run it at 420mA......and get a glass lens, and it should top over 250mW, and 420mA is considered the "safe" current for the lpc-815 LOC diodes.

no idea about the IR though.....

My advice is to take whatever most people here say is the "safe" current, and subtract 10%. Then you'll get a good long life out of it.

it will have an visible beam at day!  :D

No, it won't...
Where did you hear that? :-?

You could actually run them at 450mA, and they will be fine :)

I dont mean in direct daylight, dont misunderstand :-?
but it will be visible like a dilda...

Do you have a dilda?

i set all mine at 450mA
atleast the ones i sell.....my personal lasers are around 500mA (but they die quicker...but it's a cost im willing to pay)

Take care don't push too high  ::)

I'm glad you like the picture  :)
This diode died at 590mA :o

i had one running (on accident) around 930mA....it lasted about 10 seconds......

i didn't know rkcstr drivers could go so high.....

but when i hooked it up to my test load it was reading around 930mA

....thats why i just use fixed adjustment......so i know when i solder on those resistors i'll get a certain current

AMAZING picture btw..love those macro shots

The Rkcstr shouldn't go that high. Something is wrong with the measurement or that particular driver.

Peace,
dave

yeah i know....the driver was messed up.....can't recall what it was...i think i still have it sitting in my junk pile though...
