20 WATTS of red? We'll see...

Just got off the phone with Coherent, as it doesn't have any kind of model or marking on it, they can't say for sure what it is. BUT - they did say there are several possibilities of what it could be, and 20 watt diode bars in the red wavelength area have been made by Coherent. At least that's what I was told by the representative I talked to.

-edited for clarity

Yes, no doubt 20W red diode bars have been made by Coherent. The issue is the package this is in, the fact it is at 632nm, and the fact it has no thermistor installed. The red diodes are really only down to ~645nm range, not this low, secondly, they are horribly temperature sensitive, 10ths of a degree will make them not work so it would have a thermistor installed.

It's a stock picture, who knows what the final product will look like. Which is also why the one bolt is stripped even though it is advertised as new.

My guess is that it's not DPSS.

Probably an array of 632 diodes.

Diodes arrived today - the first was physically damaged and electrically shorted. The second worked but was not in the visible spectrum. Most likely 808 or something nearby. Dim red glow from the emitters and purple/white appearance on camera.

I've already contacted the seller about getting a refund.

I saw that auction... Good luck getting your money back, they will try to claim they never received it when you send it back.. File a PP dispute and MAKE SURE THEY SIGN FOR the package.

I just wonder, what the red array diode can be used for? I mean, 808nm arrays are used for pumping crystals in DPSSLs, but whats the purpouse of manufacture red arrays, if Coherent really makes it as you said?

Red diode bar arrays are used for laser cancer treatment machines. There is 685nm, 650, and 633nm power is 6 to 25W The 633nm have short service lives.
