1W pulse, .5W CW 638nm diode

They do look promising, but initial tests on those very diodes conducted on another forum have shown that they are very difficult to tame in terms of divergence due to the fact that they are multimode with a large emitter size.

Do you mean that they are similar to the high power 445s? Multimode with large emitters? I believe Dr. Lava's cyl. optics were supposed to work with 638s as well..

As has been stated, the 445nm diodes are a blessing in terms of multimode outptut.

Multimode is all relative. Single-mode diodes are often 1.5um wide. If you go any wider, you can get multimode, and the wider you go the worse it gets.

If you go to, say, 3um, it's not that bad really. The 445nm diodes we have now are ~15um wide, still not that awful, relatively speaking. These 638nm diodes reportedly have a ridge that is 40um wide, quite a bit worse than the 15um ridges we have now in the 445nm diodes.

There was even a mention over there of some that were 100um wide, that's essentially a broad-area diode, and would be pretty awful except they apparently are available with FAC from the factory.

Any pricing on these ? I can't wait to put them in lasers.
