Alright folks here is the beast.:eg: With all thanks to Jay for all his help.:thanks:

I started looking at the SS 18650 and decided that I wanted to go with it for the great look and the ability to have a 18650 battery which is a must for these Casio diodes. Here is some shots of the finished host.

I wanted to have the most power that could be achieved with a flex driver and after talking with Jay he came up with a special heatsink for the driver that fits in this tight unit. Jay did an excellent job getting this to all fit in the pill. Take a look.

EDIT
Here is the heat sink that Jay made for my MXDL that he now puts in his SolarForce L2P LINK. It is considerably larger than the driver heatsink that the SS 18650 has because of the size constraints which he fit in the pill nicely.

Jay also offers a copper module to complement his copper heatsink which I opted for. Very nice accessory. It may be :horse: but I wanted to go all the way.

This part seems to have caused a certain individual some trouble. But it actually is very hassle free.

You want to screw the pill and the heatsink into the head as one piece so they do not turn independently possibly twisting the wires.

You have a few options.
Jay sells a special tool for this.

SS%2018650%2013.jpg

But I have a simple way of doing that works very well. Get two sockets and use them to pinch the heatsink and the pill together and place in a vice.

Or you could just use a large set of pliers but I would suggest the vice.

The rest of the assembly is similar to other DIY's and you can check this post of mine for a step by step guide. LINK

I also opted for an EzFocus Adapter for a nice clean look.

Blowing hole through very thick plastic. CD stack bottom.

I was breathing some serious burnt plastic fumes after these shots.:barf:

And here is the LPM test. Thanks Jerry. The Laserbee II is a amazing LPM for the price and Jerry was great at answering all my questions very quickly. If you are interested in a high quality LPM that wont break the bank see his 3.2W LBII LPM thread CLICK HERE.

And if your interested here are some of the other lasers I have tested so far LINK

This host has great weight to it and seems very well balanced. The heat dissipation of this host is excellent as well. You can feel the heat spreading throughout the entire unit unlike my other hosts when they heat up you feel hot spots around the diode heat sink area and the pill where the driver is.

The only problem I have is that I always seem to be burning the strap(which I love by the way) and on my other 18650 black host does not have it anymore because I cut it in half with the beam.

Also it has a blue tailcap that is glow in the dark. Unfortunately my camera does not pick it up but it glows green which I have to say is pretty cool looking.

This kit comes in many different options so I will refer you to Jay's Thread for options and pricing. I would however suggest that you get the 445 Aixiz glass for pointing and the 405-G-1 for burning and testing power output. I also use a AW 18650 from Lighthound because the consensus seems to be they are the best.

Hope you all enjoyed the review. I love this host and would suggest it to anyone looking to do a high power 445 build.

I would also like to thank everyone that has helped me recently to get up and running. Including Jayrob, Daguin, Morgan, Lasersbee, Flaminpryo, Yobresal and more. This is a great community. I really happy to be able to give something back for all the help I have received. Thanks guys!:friend:

AMAZING looking laser! That is almost identical to what I would like to build in the near future, I'd just probably go with the DIY green host from Jay instead :p

If you don't mind me asking, how much did this set you back in total?

Thanks, that means a lot coming from you.
If you remember I was the one jealous of your 1.2W Ehgemus a month or so ago:na:

I am not 100% sure. $250-300. I had a few kits on order form Jay and other stuff. It is hard to keep them all straight. You can check out Jay's SS 18650 page. I know he is offering the special job he did for me on my MXDL so I am sure he would be offering this one as well.

That build you have right there, is just about as nice as they can get. There aren't many portables with the same options that you got on your 445 there. Hold on to that thing forever!

Great review DTR and great little pocket rocket!

It did make me chuckle about the strap burning thing. So far I've not actually burned one but it's bound to happen sometime as that thing just loves to get in the way!

I look forward to reading more of your reviews.

A Laserbee II review soon perhaps? Don't worry, I know it's on the way! ;)

Good stuff.

Really nice review with lots of details, photos, and videos...

Looks like the V5 FlexDrive maxed with a heatsink is a good set up for 445...

Hope drlava keeps them available!

Man that is awesome, great review. That is EXACTLY the 445 build I was hoping to get one day, although I don't have the skill to build it unfortunately. That is one great looking host though, maybe someone could build me one exactly like this. :D

You can do it!

There are really only two steps the way Jay sets you up. Press a diode and solder two points. Cake:beer:

I'm guessing you didn't see the thread about my last build lol.

Did a quick browse through your recent posts. Did not see any FAIL threads. But regardless you cant let a failure stop you from trying again(unless you lost an arm or something and if so I am sorry for being insensitive).
