I see in quite a few person's signatures that their 635nm lasers are written in orange lettering. I finally got to see 635nm a day or two ago and I though it was a very crisp red color. Sure, it's a touch lighter than 650... but it was WAY closer to red than to orange. At BEST, it could be called red-orange. I think it's like alot of people calling 445nm blue (it's really a little to violet to be "blue").
I thought that 615nm was a very SOLID orange color... 605-610nm being a little closer to marigold and 620nm being closer to a darker orange.
Just my observations.
