Diode Takes a Licking and keeps on Ticking

These Casio Diodes are hard to KILL. I had one which I could not remove from a damaged module. I used a Dremel to cut a slit in the base of the module. Managed to get it out eventually, but the Diode has suffered the following abuse.

1 Window Knocked Out
2 Aperture end Slightly Crushed
3 Base of Can Split on one side.
4 Dropped Multiple Times

This Diode has been put in a new module and it is STILL WORKING!!!:drool: I have it Running on a MicroBoost at 1100ma!!:D

If I had a good Camera here I would have posted pictures of this Tortured Soul:bowdown:

I have one that just wont die either. I have not done any physical damage to it but I have pumped it with above 2A many times. The diode is totally screwed but still pust out 1444mW at 1.8A. This picture is the raw output of the diode with no lens.

Here I am trying to blow it up with too much current.

I fitted one of mine into a module using a hammer, still going strong :p
 
Like I said before... The thing I worry about the most is the driver over heating and melting first before the diode starts having issues.
 
I am totally amazed that this Diode is still running. I beat the hell out of it. Just looking at it there is no freaking way is should work but it does. Some of the other Diodes We use just Faint away for practically no reason at all.

You are dead on with that statement.;)

I wonder if we will get a portable suited driver that can put out 2A without deepfrying itself in the near future.
