I purchased a flexdrive yesterday and went to dl the pdf today but could not get to the site. Just want to make sure my order went through. Let me know if you do not have it, or need something from me.
 





Which of the Micro flex and the Micro boost would preform better for the 445nm diode @850 mA?

I read that both would preform fine at that mA but the flex would run hotter?

what would you guys recommend?
 
I sugges the MicroBoost for 445. It is easier to adjust at high current. Also, for the very high range 800mA-1.1A it can run cooler with 2 1 ohm resistors soldered in parallel with the large range resistor. Turn down the potentiometer after doing this!
 
drlava, I'm one that is a little more, how shall I say, visual and I'm sorry for my lack of insight on the resistors soldered in parallel... is there a way you can post a pick or diagram. Please and thank you.

P.S. hows my order working out;).

Hey drlava, I've been testing the output of a microboost drive with a test load and have noticed at high range (800-1000mA) that the driver gets extremely hot and the power falls off rapidly (dropping down below 150mA) on my DMM. Would this parallel resistor setup help with the issue I am seeing?
 
OKay, I have managed to stabilize the microboost drive a bit. I had to de-solder two connections that did not match the diagram and replace the wires I was using from the battery to the driver with heavier gauge wires. I think I will need to replace the wires going to my test load with some heavier gauge wires as well. Those small wires just can't seem to handle the higher currents very well. The driver runs cooler now as well.
 
I ordered my flexdrive and glass lens just now :) I havnt been on the forums in about a year but I logged on yesterday and saw all these cheap 500mw+ 445nm diodes and I said :O! gotta build one !!

edit: drlava, above i saw you said that a boost driver would be better for the 445nm diodes.. would your flexdrive really run too hot if i wanted to put about 700mA through the diode?? i will be using a heatsink on the diode housing if that matters. also... what is a microboost?? lol

P.S. as a substitute can microboost be used for LPC-815

^It can be done but be aware it is a boost only driver as far as I'm aware so you either need a lower voltage power supply than the diode needs, or drop some volts somewhere. Whether this would be better done before or after the driver I do not know. Maybe this is a question for the open forum?

Would be great to see an updated visual guide for the 800mA-1.1A setting in the Micro Boost Drive V1 manual, since many are now using the boost drive for 445 instead of 405nm LD's which it was originally intended for.
I for one always reffer back to those PDF docs
BTW drlava are you going to make a dedicated driver for those 445nm LD's maybe a Boost Drive V2 since you've already sold out of the microflex drives ;)

I'm sure that more are on the way. The flexdrive still has GREAT value in the hobby. I'm sure that drlava (like the rest of us) was simply not prepared for the spike in demand that the 445nm diodes caused.

Without a doubt Dave, I've been buying both flex & boost, it's the spike in demand that raises the question regarding a possible V2 while producing more of the V5 flex aswell
