Got the arctic I purchased from Daguin. I power metered it first with the included glass covering and got 100mw lessish than without the lens. I got different readings on my Kenometer than Dave did so I'm kind of interested to see if his readings would sync with mine or not.. Anyway, I also decided I was going to supercool the arctic just like I did with my Kryton Groove with the zombified 445nm diode and see if it made any difference. Well.... IT DOES. Nice results, your Arctic seems stronger than all the others we've seen (chilled or not!).
 
Maybe do a test in a walk-in freezer I don't know if the unit will fog then.

I'm thinking that with out humiture in the air you can conduct the experiment with out the fogging of the lens. You could pre cool the unit first to cut down on your exposure time.

one thing is for sure that unit like the temp drop.:gj::topic:
 
I suddenly don't want an Arctic anymore.. I want a Spartan.
I wonder if I should get a refund now or wait a day or so when there's Spartan reviews. I'm more than sure the Spartan will be promising.
 
I can't wait to see what (if anything) they are using for a driver.

I've tried to take it apart. the two halves are pressed together. The ID of the top is the same as the OD of the bottom. Push them together with a ton of force and it's almost impossible to pull them apart without damaging the host.
 
Can you catch a glimpse of it through any huge gaping holes?

and your making this assumption based on what?

Based on its different than Dave's reading of the same laser, and also it does not match all the other average Arctic readings by other people.

Do you have a better assumption? Or is your meter right, and everyone elses is wrong?

If you supercool the bottom part it'll become much easier to pull them apart. But I think you'll need liquid nitrogen for this to work.

Now their gonna advertise the Arctic as a >1W laser instead of <1W ;)
 
Steve is aware of the thermal degradation in power on these diodes. It becomes more obvious as power levels are increased.

I gave mine a 15 minute "ride" in the deep freezer and came within 75 mW of Ken's readings. Some diodes are just hotter than others.
