Just saying hello

New to lasers.. Have wanted one for a while. I finally picked up a green 50mw and loooove it!

I like using it from my house (i live on a mountain) so its really cool to point out landmarks and buildings in the valley.

Also great for pointing out planets and stuff like that.

Anyway. Im hoping to get a 100mw and possibly a blue/violet one next.

This may be a dumb question but is the 405nm a blu ray laser?

any bettr tech? although it has more info than needed, i like that and figure it will get this newcomer hungrier to wrap her (?) mind around more than just the fact 405 = blu-ray (violet)

sorry if its too confusing, take as much out of it as you want i suppose.

You can pick up 100mW Blu-Ray builds for around $50-$80 in our B,S,T section.

Welcome aboard!!! We need more girls here. If anyone gives you a problem let me know. Good luck and be safe.

Blah forget the bluray get the 445nm blue
Don't think she needs a high-powered 445nm yet.
I think she should get a focusable 100mW 405nm next to experiment with burning and fluorescence.
Then a 200mW 660nm.
And, of course, safety glasses are a must.

He has a point, bluray is still neat but 445nm blue is way cooler IMO, but you will need to get one driven at a low current, its not a good idea to start out with a class IV when your new, lol....

Yeah I suppose lower powers would be better to start with, especially when your trying to operate it while waiting for your nails to dry

The 445nm seems amazing, but the price is a little out of my range right now.

Lol, actually mW for mW the 445nm diodes are dirt cheap, one 445nm projector diode can output well over 1W and they are only $50 each, but the strongest bluray diode available, which cant even take 1W without blowing quickly is $180 for a diode...

But you probably dont want that kind of power laying around unless your sure how to use it correctly and safely...

welcome.... you say you are interested.. are you interested in purchasing a complete? or are you a hands on diy'er?

i also recomend a phr. the diodes are 10 bucks a driver can be made for less than 5. and a module is 2 or 3. and a radio shack project box is cheap too.

good luck
michael.

I agree with chipdouglas...
start small and work your way up as you increase you Laser Safety
knowledge...

It like a new member on a car Forum stating they will get their drivers
license and all the members shouting.... get a Laborghini.... get a
Ferrari
... get Porsche... when the best/logical thing is to get a cheaper
car less powerful car and learn to drive safely first...
