For those who were mentioning the diode pins, 12X Pioneer BDR-205 diodes have much longer pins then 8X, 6X, or PHR diodes. I have to cut them down when working with them. Also you should note that the diode from a 12X drive when ordered as a single diode unit from a diode supplier and not as a harvested diode will be around $1000. This has scam written all over it in my opinion.

That's a useful tidbit, thanks for mentioning.

The thing that throws me is the fact that he has what looks to be a decent LPM, an optical Breadboard, and other related equipment. This is for sure a very risky purchase.

Wonder how he paid for it?

I'm leaning toward it being a legit ~445nm diode. They're becoming less uncommon, and soon they'll be everywhere in display technology (which is likely where this was harvested from if it was pulled from equipment).. It's the power rating that I'd be worried about. It could be completely legit, but for what will undoubtedly be a pretty high price I'd want an hours guarantee or a full warranty..

idk if i trust that... but it's an auction... so who knows what it's ACTUALLY going to sell for.

This might be an unhelpful thing to point out, but on his LPM what we're assuming to be a W looks a bit like a mU. It could be 0.5 microWatts. But then again i know nothing about LPMs or blue lasers for that matter so... y'know...

Lol this guy bids with two other accounts or with two of his friends and hopes that someone is stupid enough also to bid on this cheap 405nm.

Seriously, no one would make an high offer (more than $50) if he looks that
- this guy hasn´t sold anything
- the bid is higher than $355 and more than 4 days left
- there are only two bidders (friends)
- no one would quote a >$800 laser diode with a $50 start bid

Someone who bought and sells a real blue diode must have much more knowledge than this guy showed in his replies.

Think about it and leave this idiot alone :tsk:

Now the price is suddenly $102.5

The price is still the same in the link I just checked: 500mW Blue Laser Diode - eBay (item 300418167422 end time Apr-22-10 14:29:46 PDT)

$338

Also, the color seen in the pic of the LPM is about right for 445nm. Of course cameras can lie, but there's no real reason to believe this isn't a true blue diode.. His listed wavelength is a commonly available blue diode wavelength and they're very common in laser displays of all sorts.. it's not like they're anything too special anymore. I'd expect to see them much more frequently.

And the LPM CLEARLY says W (W is for WATTS... not micro anything..)

At the time I posted my message it suddenly was $102.5. Can you deny my arguments in post #30?

Do you mean aside from the fact that several of your claims are assumptions, that there are actually 9 bidders currently, coupled with the fact that many sellers start the bidding on multi-thousand dollar items at $.99 frequently much less $50? Not that it's a bad thing to be suspicious, since I know you're just looking out for others..

Really, though, the only way to know for sure is to buy it and test it.. all I'm saying is that based on what I know about blue diodes, this seems legit to me. It's a high cost no matter what.. I'm not in the market for a blue diode, otherwise I might take the chance. One can always start a paypal dispute if the item is clearly not what it's sold as being. As I said before, it's the power rating I'd be worried about..

"Jay,
I have more and can get more. It will set a buy it now price after the bidding on this item is closed."

He's just seeing how much to sell them for. Hope the bids stay low. Blue Lasers here we go

Look at the pic I´ve attached, I think you didn´t take a look on the bidders list at this auction. Really I can´t understand my assumption that two friends of this guy bid on this diode :can:

I´m not looking for supporters, I want to prevent others from blindly bid on this diode. That´s the message of my post #30. You think it´s just my gut instinct telling me that something is wrong there? You are right :)

I'm still not seeing anything other than a few people trying to outbid each other.. Without actual usernames we're just assuming.. as I said.

Aside from that, what else is there?

Usually manufacturers (or in this case the seller) will run a laser for a specific amount of time, usually up to 200 hours, and then check for degradation. It's a way of telling if the laser will last or not..
