...while the rest of us are nervous about screwing up while carving our pumpkins, the man's locked himself in his dungeon, not only torturing innocent diodes with varying amounts of mAh, but with a dremel saw as well...
Speaking of which, I'm going to have to get me one of these "Dremel 764-04 Pumpkin Carving Rotary Tools" for next year... rofl!!!
Pumpkin-carving power tools... is America not the greatest :sold:

I'm not really a GB participant. What do you need from me?

The BDR heat sink went out in a regualr envelope to you today.

Peace,
dave

From you, all i need is the POWER you want me to set yours to... :yh:
I know everything else..

EDIT: Also, if you want me to pre-set two (or three) bizzare higher current settings on the driver's jumpers, for you to select some day in the future, if the 8x expires and you really "NEED" to power a BluRay diode at.... Umm... I don't know, 400 - 500, perhaps even 600mA (altho the last current i still need to test)...

oh yea, you supplied your own diode:

Well that's interesting isn't it :) :crackup::crackup:

Heheh, yes, i think Dave is very lucky (and i'm sure he agrees) that the diode he supplied for me to make a laser out of, is not the one that will actually be used for his laser! :D

We are all excited that diodes are gonna die, but i think Dave made a Voodo dummy load, using parts from the first sled in it to create a spiritual link to the diode, and then stuck charged capacitors into it after seeing the first plot...

lol (or should I say ) - while the rest of us are nervous about screwing up while carving our pumpkins, the man's locked himself in his dungeon, not only torturing innocent diodes with varying amounts of mAh, but with a dremel saw as well...

Happy (belated) Halloween, Igor

That was over a year ago, it was my first GGW, it cost a fortune and i was scared shitless.. :yabbem:

4x's, while not cheap, were non-expensive enough for me to try a new method, and it worked miracles!

I can now get almost any diode out of it's heatsink in only seconds, using the "sqeeze-squeeze" method....

The lowest setting should be whatever your test dictate as a "safe" current. After that I cannot remember what the formula was for the higher settings.

I guess we'll allow him to use one of OUR diodes :)

He did help us out and all.

Actually, Dave provided three diodes. One for himself and then two for the murder experiment...

Strangelly enough both winners came from those three, but there was also a good diode among them.

So i think that should be the diode used in his laser, since it's the first diode that's gonna be used, and Dave was the first to ask for an LG 8x build, which is why i put him in the first spot on the list...

I'm totally kidding, but I'm sure you knew that :crackup::crackup:

The lowest setting should be whatever your test dictate as a "safe" current. After that I cannot remember what the formula was for the higher settings.

I usually use the main and a secondary shunt to set the current, because it requires specially calculated resistor combos.

But i can parallel these SMD resistors one on top of another on the main shunt pads, and leave both jumpers free...

Two free jumpers give you two or even three (depending on HOW it's done) higher current options - IF you want them.

And i didn't mean for raising the current in the 8x build, but current options that might come in handy in the future.

But i could also make current options, that would just raise the current slightly, still in the 8x range.

It is obvious you're a professional, your Voodoo-aim is very good! ;)

I wasn't completelly sure, but mainly i wanted to make sure one of the other GB participants wouldn't misunderstand it.. :yh:

As far as I am concerned, this laser will NEVER be molested. I have plenty to "experiment with." I have two complete builds here waiting on the results of your tests to set the final current before sale. Any additional settings on this driver would be for two years from now (>100 hrs) *IF* needed for some higher powered diode.

Our original discussions about higher settings were for a couple of additional drivers you were going to send to me, in lieu of reimbursing me for shipping costs.

Peace,
dave

I forgot to ask for one thing in the summary requests... :yabbem:

This only matters for the participants who requested a DIODE ONLY.

Since i am sending out the "Diode Only" orders first, i need to know what kind of shipping you want me to use....

I can use Regular Priority or Registered Priority.

For lasers i always exclusivelly use REGISTERED Priority, because it provides a tracking number and doesn't get lost. It's the cheapest form of protection i can use for myself and the buyer... With some countries it can be tracked online (but only shows a few steps - arrival at customs, released from customs, delivered and signed for)...

Since these diodes are not too cheap, i would recommend Registered Priority for all "Diode Only" orders as well!

It's up to you, but i had two bad experiences with Regular Priority to US. That's why i would only recommend REGISTERED Priority!

Registered Priority is ~$8 worldwide for light packages (more for lasers due to weight). A little less for EU countries, i think $6 (or less). That includes PP fees.

I will calculate preciselly when i return from the post office today, and let everyone know.....

If someone should happen to pay too much, i'll refund the difference, once i have your tracking slip in hand and can calculate exactly how much it cost.

"DIODE ONLY" Participants:

I asked about shipping at the post office...

Shipping is 4.13€ worldwide for REGISTERED PRIORITY packages up to 20g, no difference for EU, i don't know why i thought it was less...

With the bubble padded envelope, that makes 4.45€...
If i type "4.45 EURO in USD" into Google, it says $6.62...

PayPal Fee Calculator
says $7.20 with feez (so $6.62 is left after them)..
I used "Reverse PP Fee Calculator", and marked "Cross Border Payment"...

So $7.20 for Registered Priority worldwide for packages up to 20g..

I'll send everyone with a "Diode Only" order a PP Request tonight, and send them off tomorrow.

Since they are extracted and cleaned, i will stick their pins into antistatic foam (such as used for ICs) for mechanical protection and put them back into their little baggies.

Oh, right Krutz asked for a sled on top!
Krutz, i'll send you a request separatelly after yours is shipped, ok?
