It's amazing, but unlike with Styro's videos it's something that I would never be able to afford XD

Most of the magic comes from that laser box, which I'd estimate is >$2K. The Nichia arrays for comparison are only like $330 for 100W

I have burned so much fiber like that, you really have to polish the end clear and keep it clean or it will burn like cannon fuse.......granted he used the factory prepared end and made a simple coupler for his beam expander which is a reflector telescope and I see he took the window off to eliminate lens flare.

He said DJI sponsored his build.

No he built it from this

The coherence length of the beam cluster from a nub-31/34 is piss poor compared to his fiber unit, it's not comparable at all and you can't focus the nub-31/34 anywhere near that well, not even close.

Ngl seems like a pretty smart idea to use a telescope as a beam expander

There's a hole in the center of your image/beam with a reflector scope so some of his energy is reflected back, I prefer using a keplarian scope but the reflector scope is much more affordable, a Kep that big would be very expensive.

Too bad it is IR, but then again, avoids attention that way, except...... for posting it on YT for the world to see :p

Nobody here is doing anything wrong but I understand some people do have nosy neighbors so I think I understand what you mean, that said cameras are everywhere so all bad actors beware and behave.....it's a shame we have to worry about what the worst among us might do but the biggest hazard I think is carelessness, I was glad to see our video content creator parked his car behind his plywood backstop but we can never be too safe and hopefully we won't set every rule/law by the lowest common denominator and we won't have to hide our hobbies. :)

Doesn't matter if you are not doing anything wrong, if someone thinks you are and believes you are targeting something, guess what? Not good. That said, I've had my fun using visible spectrum lasers doing the same thing.... until one day when pointing over a mountain top I saw the landing lights from an airline appear right where I was pointing, OMG... they flew right over my house too, low, I think they were telling me something.

Regarding this IR beamer, it potentially could be a problem, but the aircraft would need to be very close, at cruising altitude I don't think there is any issue. That and even if they flew through the beam, not too likely to be in it very long, it would be so fast and not strait into any ones eyes very easily, so I think the potential for an issue is very small, too small to worry about, but a nearby helicopter out 1 mile or so I would need to calculate the amount of IR energy being produced per square cm and then determine the amount which could enter the pupil of an eye which is dark adapted to really know if there might be any hazard at all even then, as using that telescope to expand and collimate the beam, even though 200 watts, is expanded quite large substantially reducing the power density.

This guy said he checked a radar, or what was it he checked to make sure there were no aircraft where he was pointing? I'm a pilot and most of my flying was "VFR", I didn't need to report my position to anyone and sometimes too low for radar too far out in the distance to detect me. He cannot say there were no airplanes out there, in an open area like that, private pilots can legally fly as low as 500 feet, although entirely unlikely at night, you might hit something, unless a full moon you just can't see what is down there, except lights.

All in all, I'm not concerned he could harm anything but bugs with what he was doing.

Keep in mind that the laser beam itself is barely visible unless the person is standing like 15-30 degrees from the point of origin (experimentally tested this in the city). That probably helps with people not getting pissed

In my opinion Patrick Priebe (LASERGADGETS) is a Styropyro's competition.

that laser is sick --deff. inspired by Drake

I expected to see some smoke in those trees..
good for racoon hunting--spot them, then fry them(JK--JK)

Not bright enough to the eye for anyone to worry about even then, but if they thought you were targeting something, then someone might have an issue, but they would probably be scratching their head trying to figure out if it was a camera or not and if so, why the faint red beam :p

I like it, where can I buy one? No doubt, not cheap, even building it in terms of parts much less the time involved. I accept donations :) There are cautions involved though, certainly don't use it anywhere near an airport.

Here is a 300 watt multibeam output and RGB laser I built about five years ago:

Damn! Please post any beamshots that you may have :D

I didn't take any, the project is stored in Alaska right now. I did have some 1 watt 450 nm diodes on it, but the beam shots of those were not impressive at all.
