Well, one could of course get crazy about picking various flashlights. I do like to have good color rendition.

Anyway, I need recommendations for non and rechargeable flashlights for emergencies and everyday use. Reasonable....not for an art collection lol

Hi Andrew, as you know, there's a million choices out there, but for an EDC sized rechargable light (18650), I really like THESE from Banggood.
They were made to specs provided by Budget light forums, and IMO they are an economical, high quality flashlight, I personally have three of them. :)

If you want a higher end (more expensive) rechargable light, I like Fenix brand lights such as the PD35.

Wow, where have I been...never saw the Budget Ligth Forums.... I have never really understood the pricing of flashlights...I mean they are just an LED driver, and case.

I actually have this really cheap light called the worm I got on Amazon...one AAA bulb....had a Nichia LED that gives normal color rendition...same thing as the one made by a guy...can't remember his name....for a lot more.

A nice big flashlight that you an use to hit someone over the head is also nice :eg::eg:

I have also been to Candlepower forums....just wondered what folks here would say.

This 'TK75' is a pretty good choice for "hitting someone over the head" with. It's powered with 8 18650 batteries when used with the extended run time kit, not to mention that it also puts out 5100 lumens. :D

It's definitely a hefty, hungry beast!

I've got lots of flashlights, but haven't bought a new one in over two years. I'll have to have a look at Banggood. I just want as much light as possible for the least amount of money.

5100 lumins...you can blind him first....then hit him over the head;) But, for 200 plus bucks, you can get a good unreliable Saturday night special.

Seriously, I am wondering about something, I have not spent as much time on Candlelight forums as here, but it seems to me that just as you can build your own laser, you can put together a pretty good flashlight....I just have to get the parts....one thing....I don't like some of the modes....I don't need a flasher or SOS....several brightness levels perhaps.

Just built a Convoy L6 with Cree XHP70.2 P2-5C emitter, smooth reflector and bridged the sense resistors for 8.5 A on high (other modes not affected ;) ) - Current measured at tail cap. Well I could say its a small sun, but that would be an understatement! :) In all $ 88 for the parts and LiitoKala 26650s.

If I understand this you spent about 60 bucks on the light and then added some parts. What did bridging the sense resistors accomplice? That LED is a white light...am I correct.

Are you saying it is running unregulated?

For most intents and purposes, yeah. Without the sense resistors the driver will pump out all the current it can as it has no feedback telling it how much current it's putting out.

That sounds like a bad idea, but flashlights aren't my thing. It sounds like it is almost running off the batteries, but I imagine the driver still has a limit.

I don't understand. Why not bridge out the driver entirely, or replace it with a low value resistor? If you're so convinced the LED can handle it, this option would be more efficient and more reliable.
