Hi guys

I've spent a lot of time on YouTube watching a lot of different lasers and a lot of the videos give a link to the forums here and am excited to be a new member from the UK.

I work in a scrap yard and most of my time is taken up from marking/scoring items to either be crushed or shredded etc,
So I hope you can help me with this request?

I am looking for a laser that can burn into metal and rubber without much effort from around 50 meters away? and the laser colour is not a problem. The quicker it can burn the better due to the amount of scrap there is at this 7000 ft/sq scrapyard.
The scoring size would be about the same ish size as a normal laser pointer.
Of course I don't want a laser that needs to be mounted to a truck lol a handheld size that would fit in my pocket would be perfect.

Thank you very much for your kindness and consideration.

Mike

Hi Mike ,
The welcome section would be in order and please add your location in the avatar. Ok from what i hear your looking for a EDC pocket unit. Well you need to pick a WL and a power output to decide if a EDC will take that power , and battery size. Being that your currently in the UK shipping from the states would not be feasible for you, Check out Sanwu lasers they have a large selection of pocket units your looking for .

Hello, it might be best to make a welcome thread in the "welcome" section and introduce yourself and tell us a little about yourself. :)

That being mentained, I thinking what your asking is a little impractical. For you to burn 50 meters away ( 164 feet ) you'd need a 7 watt'er plus a beam expander to burn at that distance. When/if you could "mark" something it would not be an instantaneous mark. It would take, depending on the material 30 seconds and up to a couple of minutes, which would bring your laser up to the temperature where you would have to let it cool down. So it would be good only once very 5 or so minutes. Food for thought.

You would probably need safety glasses even at that distance to be 100% safe.

What Bobmc said, impractical (to the point of absurdity).

OK....Troll Alert then....based on that ID.... My suggestion....Go to a "Galaxy....far, far away"....maybe they have one. Why are people so needy ??? Why is there a troll phenomena ???.....If this is indeed a troll...I suppose...I should not even deliver them the satisfaction of any reply....BUT....In the words of " Monty Python "...."Awwww...PISS OFF"

I believe this guy has been quite active creating several accounts and doing a lot of help me troll questions, only problem for a troll is when people don't realise they have been trolled, so he had to get obvious with this post. So many members are willing to give a benefit of a doubt to many of the newbie posts coming in right now, he isn't being seen for what he is much of the time, just a help me troll.

Good points.
From the absurd question seems to be a troll.

abeast33, why not just use a .22 rifle at that 50 meter range:eek:
Or for $1 buy a magic marker and then you can write the word TROLL on your forehead;)

Hi guys

Thank you for the replies. Not sure who the troll is?

The 50 meter distance was a bit to far after checking today.
The distance I would need is approx 5 to 10 meters.
Am no expert on lasers just what I've seen and what would be useful to my work.
I would like the laser to still be able to mark metal and thick rubber immediately.

Again many thanks for your advice in advance
