What does your dream laser host look like inside your head? How many lasers would you want in it? What color(s) would you choose? How big is it? How powerful? I want to see the laser hosts that you've dreamed of but have never been able to obtain because they're too expensive/ unrealistic. Give me pictures so we can visualize what you mean. Even if they're hand drawn I wanna see what you can imagine. Show me whatcha got! :D

:lasergun:

This is my dream host. I am not very good with my 3D software so I'll stick with MS paint until I can get better at rendering my visions. This hosts hold 4 NUBM07Es and 1 NDG7475 with a beam expander in the middle. The blue areas are where I'd place the 07Es and the green is where the 7475+expander would go. I'd want the expander to be set inside the host and completely covered so that you couldn't see it. I'd also like to have a momentary switch on the side but a lock switch on the bottom. For the lock switch I would want the pointed end at the bottom to act as the key instead of having a visible lock. This most certainly isn't my final revision of this host but it will have to do for now.

I also have some concepts for a futuristic laser rifle but I'm not done with those yet :D

If we're talking one diode, it's this.

And in fact, in a few weeks, I'll be building a NUBM44 into one of these. :D

My dream host would be a 5 foot tall staff made of ivory, onyx, and mahogany. There would be a massive blue sapphire stone near the top, the size of a large softball that is held in place with what look like three branches wrapping around it in a bulb sort of way. Inside the staff would be a knife edge array of 500 NUBM07E 465 nm diodes which all focus on the center of the sapphire and illuminate it in the brightest possible way, obliterating everyone who looks at or are near it.

Dreams typically have some element of realism, Sean... :)

Wow! These light saber builds are becoming really popular recently aren't they? I think I'll have to join in on that soon;)

Holy smokes man! And I thought I was going a little overboard
That sounds like a dream come true but I have no idea on how you'd ever try and do it! :D

True that :p

I can't draw but I can describe what I want:

R,G,B single mode dichro combined laser diodes to produce white with on-axis infrared. I'd have buttons to turn on or select each color as desired, perhaps mixing sliders too. The infrared would be single mode too and with its own on-off button, just in case I want to use it to signal someone with NV goggles or camera which is also of interest to me. I figured out how to do this, already have the dichro plates as well as all of the diodes. I'd combine two single mode R,G,B diodes each through a polarized beam splitter/combiner cube to increase the power for all three visible diodes as well as for IR. Last but not least, a large PCX lens on the output to expand the already low divergence single mode diodes to uber low mRad.

I'm afraid to ask.... total price estimate??

Dichros $140, LD's 2 X RGB w/G2's $400, 4 X PBS cubes $250.00-300.00, SM IR LD's w/1x3 um emitters $60.00, surplus Tropel 5" dia. PCX lens in cone mount $175.00, 6 X diode drivers $150.00, machining for host $500.00. That is almost all the parts, probably about 2K.

Holy cow! Now that's a good idea !So you'd be able to choose how much of each color that was coming out? Brilliant!:yh:

Yea, akin to this marvel from a couple years ago
That's actually less than I expected Alaskan, I was anticipating something close to $10,000 lol.

Really not that expensive for RGB these days - just look at the prices of the various RGB projectors from China. 3W - fully assembled and ready to go - for ~$1000 some places - and that's has scanners and a case on top of just the lasers and optics.

I've been so tempted to buy one of those cheap 100-400+ mw RGB to white dichro lasers from China, but I keep seeing reports they die, or a color stops working after awhile. Seems they are pushing them too hard. The more expensive ones with the same output with higher rated diodes last longer because they aren't being pushed to the max, or beyond the output they should run at. You can buy the diodes cheap yourself and build one for far less than my estimate by putting them in a diode holder yourself, less expensive lenses and cheap dichro plates without cubing the outputs of two sets of three colors.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/400mW-White...ined-by-532nm-650nm-450nm-Laser-/141956688223

Looking at the photo you can see the output beam doesn't have the width of the different colors well matched, I bet the divergences are also poorly matched and after a distance the beam doesn't look very white anymore, but that might be interesting anyway.

My dream host would be.. my skin.. yeah.. i embed those high powered laser in my skin e.g forehead, palm, every tip of finger, etc.
The power source is harvested directly from my own body, either by chemical reaction, body heat, or any other MEMS energy harvester.

But because of the impossibility of this with current technology including the cost, i guess that's why it's just a dream LOL

Kinda like Iron Man? But with your flesh? Flesh Man?:undecided:

Either way I get whatcha mean and I would love to have a few high powered hidden lasers on me:D Could help in sketchy situations :p

That's it!
It could help in some situations :D
