Re: Pgl 589 gb, new developments!!!!

This is good info. I didn't know the 50mW module was so much cheaper. Although an 80mW would be nice it's not worth an additional $300.
Yang kinda skipped over my question to her asking if they would sell the Pgl host separately. I' really love that host.

Typically in the past CNI has quoted the same price for either a complete laser or just the module.

This case seems to be the same--- $840 for 1 piece of the complete laser & $840 for just the module.

I would guess the 10 piece price for just the module would be the same also $585

Re: Pgl 589 gb, new developments!!!!

Hey guys,
After an extensive search this past week I finally found a CNI distributor that carry the 589 PGL.
The company is Armlasers.com the price quoted in 940$ so a hundred more than CNI but they give a 5 year warranty which is longer then CNI.
I could see about a qty discount if anyone is still interested otherwise I'm just going to order my self one.

The second page that google search shows is this: WolSoft tech news, reviews and more: Don't buy laser products from WWW.ARMLASER.COM or WWW.BEAMQ.COM

You may want to look for some more reviews about them.

Where are you getting $940? On their site it says ~$700?

It also only has a warranty for 6 months.

589nm Portable Yellow Laser : Laser Pointers, Green,Red,Blue,High power

Not really sure about this company though...

It looks like beamq.com is the same site under a different name.

Does look like the same site indeed. I noticed that they have many of the same lasers on their sites too. For example, I saw 3 of the exact same 473nm laser with different descriptions. I also see them talking about how far some lasers can reach. Haven't seen any decent laser company talk about how far their lasers can shine.

To me it looks like a bad idea to order from them.

Edit: check out this page. http://www.armlaser.com/page.html?chapter=18&id=101 They're talking about BeamQ on the Armlaser website.
They also claim to be manufacturer. This really doesn't seem right from any point of view.

Thanks for the heads up Gozert and H20. In an email from them they said this laser is made by CNI which is why I am considering it. Would you guys still not feel comfortable buying from them knowing its a CNI product?

If I were in your shoes right now I would make contact with the company again and ask for confirmation on stock availability and guaranteed replacement/refund on the off-chance the laser is seized by customs. If the responses check out and you get the right vibe I would place the order on the basis you have a quality product plus having done a shed load of work already to try and purchase one, I'd say go for it!

Well, the thing with these shady sites is that you can in no way be completely sure that what they're selling really is a CNI laser. And it's not 100$ we're talking about, it's almost a grand. I know how bad you want a 589nm, but you really should try getting it some other way.

What I thought of was getting the laser shipped to a trusted member outside the US, then have him take it apart and ship it to you in seperate packages declared as 20$ each or so.

While this seems like a good idea, there's still a huge risk. They can ship a similar looking laser, or something whole different. In the case that it's not the laser you were expecting to get, all you can do is send it back and have paypal charge the money back. This however, costs a ton as shipping to China is very expensive (assuming they are located in China).

Edit: There's another thing to keep in mind. If you're paying with Paypal, they don't support buying nor selling lasers. So unless the company itself offers a refund, you're probably out of luck.

I agree its risky going with a seller with not so good rep and I have thought about asking a trusted member outside the USA to receive the laser and re ship it to me. In fact I have done a bit of looking into this. Here is the problem. The LPF members who I would feel comfortable asking such a favor all live in countries that the import duties and taxes will be 30-40% of full value of laser and also the cost of shipping and insurance is taxed as well. Plus then the re shipping costs. So were talking like 400-500$ on top of the laser price to do this.

Canada is the best option with the lowest taxes on imports from China and I asked a member from there for their help but they didn't feel comfortable being involved and I fully respect their decision.
So my options are at this time 3 fold and Id appreciate hearing some feedback from everyone willing to give it.

option 1- Order from Armlasers.com cost $960
option 2- Ask someone in the E.U. and pay a lot more looking at about $1300-1400 total
option 3- I just got a reply from Ultra Lasers, whom currently can NOT ship >5mW to the States and this has been verified by the company. BUT.... they told me they anticipate being allowed to ship here in 4-6 weeks time. They quoted me $1100.

So there pos and negs to each option which is making it hard to decide. I think option 3 is best. Slightly higher cost but a trusted and respected company.
Your thoughts?

BTW- thanks everyone I really appreciate peoples help. I have rep'd you all. If I ever do get this laser I'm going to sleep with it every night considering the amount of effort put into getting it, lol!

First off, thanks for the rep! Not sure if I can rep back yet, but I will as soon as I can.

You have some good points, but you're forgetting one thing. For Armlaser to be able to get it to you, in the US, they would have to declare the package as low as possible. Somewhere under 50$. Why? A package that is roughly 300 by 200 by 200mm with a price tag of 1000$+ on it is suspicious. This is how Dragonlasers gets it's lasers into the US too. Simply by declaring it as low as they can. So why not have CNI ship one to a member in the EU with the package declared somewhere under 50$ and have them then ship it to you? There won't be any serious taxes because of the low value and shipping it to you won't be very hard either. It'll save you some money and you won't be having to deal with some shady business.

From my understanding and emails with CNI they insist upon insurance and in order to insure it it must be declared at actual value. But you raise a good point maybe I can confirm this. My lord I bet Yang is so sick of me, lol! The email thread of ours is like 27 emails. Hell, whats one more.

Looks like the customs issue doesn't apply as they have US and Canada 'branches' as below.

550 Battery St.Unit 907
San Francisco, California 94111
United States

Canada Branch
6150 Paul-Gury suite 210, G1P4R3
Quebec,Canada

Therefore, to my mind the only risk (after mitigating the shipment concerns by dropping them an email asking for explicit confirmation on stock) is the that the unit is a fake/reproduction. In my opinion this is not likely but cannot be ruled out. A direct purchase from CNI with an EU middleman also presents risk of a customs seizure for which there would be no warranty comeback (CNI would have fulfilled shipment to the first location) leaving you exposed on the second leg of the journey. Tough one :)
