...The world of lasers has changed. I feel it in the air. I see it in the photons. What was thought to be impossible has now come to pass...

It began with the building of the great lasers. To beam gazers single mode diodes were given who's thin fine beams illuminated the darkest regions of their souls.

To the rich the exotic wavelengths. Yellows oranges and icy blues bound only by the limits of their own pocketbooks.

To the gas lovers, lasers of He, neon who's beams were so fine and colorful, but bulky power supplies and fragility left them wanting. For within these lasers were the powers to enjoy this fine hobby.


But they were all together deceived for another laser was made... In the land of Canada, in the icy pits of Joe's basement , the laser lord JLSE in secret forged a master laser. Into this laser he poured his intelligence and creativity. His will to dominate all lasers (well maybe not)....

ONE LASER TO RULE THEM ALL...

This is my review of JLSE's RGB hand held, and is my first review so sorry for any mistakes.

This laser is amazing. I've never seen anything like it.

It is powered by 2 18650 batteries , weights about 2 pounds and is a bit over 10 inches long.

The host is machined beautifully with a black rubber hand grip. The battery tube separates from the main body for easy storage. Threads for the tail cap are as smooth as butter. The Tail contains the main power switch.

The main body holds 2 diodes and a green dpss module cooled by a TEC for beam stability at lower power and unlimited duty cycle.

The diodes (and dpss module).
RED 635nm max output 50mw.
Green 532nm max output 30mw.
Blue 450nm max output 40mw.

All are single mode with a very fine beam. The diodes are controlled by 25 turn pots for fine tuning of colors. Min outputs are very low, in the micro watt range.

All I have atm is this video provided by JLSE.
All my pics and video came out horrible and I didn't want to wait any longer.
I will do my best to provide more pics and video for there can't be enough for this work of art.

Very nice. Glad you got everything worked out.
Now up all the mW 1000 and sign me up ;)

With the new nichia 3.5w Rated 445nm and the 1w 9mm 520nm there's sure to be more beautiful handheld with combined diodes on the horizon. Oh and a new 700mw 638nm.

No it won't light a match.

And no one pair of glasses will protect you.

That is pretty freaking sweet! I can only imagine how much it cost given the degree of craftsmanship and amount of work it took! Take care of that beauty!

I did, but even then the graph is still way to small. The text is almost unreadable :p

From what I can see of that graph it seems like the VLT would be extremely low.

WOW....x 10 !!!!!!! Combiners rule !!!!! This is an ultra miniaturized Laser Projector...in a can....and portable !!! And with millions of colour combinations possible. Stunning !!!! The video was very good....But...." Where is the Beef " What goes on inside the " Magic Aluminum Cylinder ".....CDB's guess...

The LD's he uses require only a single collimation lens....because the beams are all single mode....none of them require secondary optics....as the die and divergence are really good...." Right outta the Box" SOooo...that eliminates most corrective optics !!!!!

Since the DPSS green has the best response for the human eye...I bet that it is the main beam....meaning that it starts at the back...and it's axis is parallel to the unit. The Green beam is placed at the back of the Aluminum cylinder....for this Green beam must pass thru the most amount of optics...and optics cause some loss of optical power....so...typically in ANY projector set-up...the Green beam is the first to start with.

And...Like the Tridentis Build...the other two colours are added with their axis being perpendicular to the main Green beam. The Red and Blue beam is sent to join the Green beam at a 90 degree angle.

The mixing is all accomplished with Dichroic Filters. This is no small feet in a projector...let alone in the ultra small world of a hand held geometry.

ALIGNMENT MUST BE SPOT ON !!!!

Likely he adds Blue to the Green first...my guess....SOoo...the Blue beam joins the Green beam by use of this thing called a Dichroic Filter. This filter is a specially coated glass....in the case of the Blue joins Green...the filter allows Green to pass right thru...but reflects Blue ( 99% reflective). The Dichroic Filter is precisely positioned so the Blue beam hits it at a 45 degree angle....the Blue beam then is reflected...and joins his buddy....the Green beam. One beam is superimposed over the other beam.....so that the now are traveling along the exact same axis !!

Then..."Rinse and repeat" for the Red beam....so that it joins the Green/Blue beams...in the same fashion...Only this time...the Dichroic Filter is selected so that it passes the Blue/Green colour beams...BUT...reflects the Red beam...

A most challenging part is that ALL three beams MUST strike the Dichroic Filters...IN EXACTLY the same spot ( X/Y)...This is so that the beam overlays match up exactly !! This means that each of the three LD beams MUST be at the EXACT same height...and positioned left/right so that each beam hits the filter at the correct point !!!!

Again....this is demanding on the much larger Projector scale...let alone on the ultra small scale of this Hand Held !!! Very, Very, Very demanding indeed !!!!

Then also, the adjustment of the Dichroic Filters MUST be exact in the pitch and yaw angle of the filter. Maybe the very small MMI mount was used to mount and align/adjust the Dichroic Filters ???? Maybe due the size requirement...he had to do some form of custom mount design and machining !!! But...in some fashion...one need to precisely adjust these filters !!

So....that is how I think the three beams join to form one beam....all on the same axis....

Regardless...A HUGE +++++ for JSLE....Please post pics of what's under the hood....but...I understand if you choose not to !

In a design of this magnitude....there are likely many months work in the designing....and machining, alignment....not to mention the electronics, TEC, power and control areas !!!

Thanx to all involved in this project !!!! With this...our hobby evolves yet another step forward !!!!

Oh...And...Combiners Rule !!!
