Last year I saw Fiddy made a tridot red laser and I was amazed about the triangle dot like in the Predator movie.
The three laserbeams from his laser wasn't straight and I decided to do it better.
The aluminium heatsink was ordered from Mrcrouse. The heatsink was designed for the C2 host and the head was big enough for three 12mm modules. I didn't want the setscrews in the heatsink. I have decide to use silicone glue for attaching the modules into the sink. That would make the alignment of the three beams much easier.
The diodes are the LOC LPC-826. These are very cheap nowadays. You can buy 10 for $25 shipped. Here is the link, 660nm 300 400mW CW Red Laser Diode ML101U29 25 10pcs Pak | eBay
The LOC are case negative so the only way to connect three of them is in parallel. It is not possible to series them. This is not the ideal setup because if one diode dies it could drag the other two in the oblivion.
So here are the parts, C6 with a Mohgasm driver.
Pressing the diodes in the modules is very easy with the Flaminpyro press tool.
Leads attached with colored shrinktube on the pins.
The first module glued in the heatsink. I have hoped that the first diode is straight enough because the other two dots are depending on this startpoint.
After drying period of one day I set the second module. The second dot was placed close to the first dot in the right position.
Another day passed and the third diode was set. You know the drill.
The acrylic lenses were used for this build.
Two 2.2W set resistor was used for the Mohgasm driver. The current was ~1.1A with two 18350 batteries.
The 17mm round driver fits nicely in the pill.
It is pretty hard to solder 4 wires to one point.
A new laser is born !
The menacing glow of the three heads.
Small laser with a big front.
Headshot just like in the Predator movie. :gun:
I left the laser too long on. The upper dot starts to smoke the mask !!
Each dot has a measured output of 242-244mW with the acrylic lens.

the picture is taken with an ultra wide angle lens.
I hope this build will inspire you to make a tri-dot laser. It isn't easy but the reward is much bigger.
Thanks for watching ! :thanks:
