Hi,
I am in the market for a 980nm 1w+ laser. I have been rolled by wicked lasers before and now I am on a mission to find a reputable dealer or private seller that can provide what I require without the frills and dare I say, without the bs usually associated with international sellers. I have read several reviews listed within this fine establishment and I would appreciate some advice on a suitable purchase.
I am a skywatcher and CE-5 initiate, the reasons for the invisible laser include safety concerns for human-controlled aircraft (+ law restrictions) in neighbouring areas but primarily for signalling extra-terrestrial intelligences so that CE-5 contact can be made, documented and presented to worldwide audiences.
I am going to need a beam that is strong enough to reach space. the signalling protocols will help determine genuine sightings from satellites and iridium flares etc. I figure if I can arrange a laser with a beam that reaches to the top of the earth I will also be able to estimate more accurately the distance between my group and the objects/crafts being observed through my high-end digital nv intensifier gear- which is sensitive up to around 1150-1250nm.
I had a browse through olike, jetlasers, warnlasers, dragonlasers and others and at the moment I am considering a warnlaser Magma-980 3W for $400.
I guess I am looking for assurance that warnlasers won't screw me- $400 for a THREE WATT 980nm laser seems almost miraculous to me considering the prices seen elsewhere exceed the 400 mark for sometimes less than 1 WATT! I mean I gave wicked 200 for a 95mw green e3 marked as 300mw some time ago...
What's the deal there? Would I really get 3watts worth in a quality product for this price?
Also, can you tell me whether the beam range is dependant, or influenced substantially, by the nm wavelength/colour? In other words will a 2w green laser produce a longer stronger beam than a 2w 808 or 980nm laser?
Thank you so much,
Dave
