I have tried connecting it to a battery Can't seem to get it working and maybe someone else out there with more luck maybe will be able to get it working

DPSS = Diode pumped solid state. Regular green diodes are much more expensive. DPSS lasers actually have a (relatively) higher powered infrared diode in them (few hundred mw), which are than filtered through a crystal to make them green. IR diodes are very, very cheap - and so is the crystal to filter it. If you find true green diodes, they're probably going to be pretty pricey. This is likely to be DPSS.

You have a lot of reading to do. Green is created from an IR 808 diode. In a nutshell, it passes through a crystal set that takes it to 1064, then frequency doubles it to 532. That was a very slimmed version, I recommend scanning the forums and reading up. It probably got jostled a bit and only lases in IR now. When you attempted to use it, did you notice a faint, deep red? If so, that was the 808 lasing. DO NOT LOOK INTO IT! It is very powerful, much more powerful than the rated <30mW as it is not passing through the set and losing its power. If that's the case, might be better to toss, although someone might want it for an IR pointer.


Another test for ir, shine it on your table, then look at the dot through a camera (phone, webcam, etc) it'll pick up the IR much better than the human eye, as a bright whitish, maybe even blue.

^ depending on the quality of the camera, the higher quality ones sometimes filter IR.

Were you using just a 1.5V battery before hand? These need atleast 3.0v to get going

no i was using a little solar power, but that was connected to a 1.5v battery xD

Edit: forgot to mention i was also quite proud of myself when it turned on my face lit up

and offer to give his laser away. I was already composing a post as I read the OP about perhaps a member would take a look at it for you- as a favor --if no way was found to fix it via the forums. Dunno how they manage to get these things to lase at all with the sloppy construction. In general you'll rarely find a laser (with a driver) that'll run off 1.5V. Usually 3V is the minimum, which can either be 2xAAA/AA/C/D/whatever, or 1 lithium battery at 3.7V nominal (Although at full charge they're up around 4.2V).

IR diodes have a Vf of around 1.2V, so a good linear regulator with <300mV dropout could work on a single 1.5V battery, but would probably have a very short lifetime as the battery voltage dipped.
