Re: Build: Tri-Diode laser

Any word or your LPM power discrepancies you had
posted about 2 weeks ago...?
Have you gotten the OPHIR head back..?

Not yet, it's probably going to be another 3~ weeks for it to get here.

Re: Build: Tri-Diode laser

OP added with update. Received the host from Mrcrouse. May the build commence! :D

Can't do that :p

Should I push it higher? 2.4A? 2.5A?

Re: Build: Tri-Diode laser

Not necessary i think, 3W is a lot of power already, and with 2.4-2.5 you'll just be risking it for a couple a hundred mWs.. My offer stands :eg:

Re: Build: Tri-Diode laser

Good point, I also don't want to risk it degrading really fast. 2.2A is probably the current I'll set this diode at.

Time to test the other 9mm :D

Psh. Not nearly as good as the other diode :p
2A 2.7W

I'll probably run this one at 2.1A.

Pre-optics numbers.
Mitsubishi 500mW - 1250mA - 1025mW
9mm long shrink - 2100mA - 2800mW
9mm short shrink - 2200mA - 3100mW
Total - 5550mA - 6925mW

Total 7W of power pre-optics! :D (rounding)

I lost 8% power on the main diode in the 4.4W handheld and 19% on the secondary diode.

Those losses will be higher due to the dichro at the end. I estimate 15% loss on the primary, 20% loss on the secondary and 25% loss on the Mitsubishi.
Estimated:
2630mW long 9mm
2240mW short 9mm
750mW mits

5.6W laser anyone? :)

My estimate of the 4.4W handheld was 4.5W after I had the diode numbers. If I keep the same track record this should turn out to be 5.5W :p

Re: Build: Tri-Diode laser

That's a little bit on the low side but still way more than what a freak m140 would do.. So there is a lot of optical energy coming from both thus compensating each other, now build it already !!!

Re: Build: Tri-Diode laser Est. 5.6W

So, what color beam are you estimating? And are you going to powder coat or anodize the host to match?

Very fun build, looking forward to more pics :)

I think the blue will over power the red. I think it'll look slightly purple, probably how the A140 diodes looked like.

The heatsink is polish aluminium and the body is a silver maglite, it matches up quite nicely :)

Beautiful and functional :D Mrcrouse did a great job on it. Even the insides where the optics go are polished.
I love the finning on it, more surface area, better cooling :)
