They are better because they offer protection for 808nm and 1064nm.

Most likely you will end up getting a 532nm (green) laser at some point.

Most likely you will not get a a higher quality one, and the one you get will leak IR.

The most common variety, can leak both 1064, and 808nm.

Glasses and eye protection are quite expensive, but the way i should look at it is that id rather pay like 50-80$ on some protection than live my life blind :O

I use to own a 1.5W 445 nM blue laser, and burned stuff, i was stupid. I just wanted it to fuck with stuff.

Excuse my language, lol. I would stare at the light while burning it, then see yellow spots, from the brightness.

I could tell my eyes were not gonna do anything but become damaged.

Basically, i am making this post to urge myself to invest in eye protection ,even though its 'lame' to some people

As you said, it may be lame to some people, but at the end of the day, $50.00 + is nothing compared to your eyesight, so yes, get your paws on some goggles!

whats the best way to go about aligning an RGB system? have two pairs of glasses and align two at a time is the best option i could come up with. any other options. I have gone through every goggle manufacturer I could think of, and looked at the options they provide. You're either stuck with very very low VLT and mediocre protection, or getting two pairs to cover the full range you need with reasonable VLT where you can see what you're doing.

I did recently test a pair of "cheap" goggles that seemed to perform very well for 405, 445, 532, 635, and 660, but idk if that was fluke, I want to test a few more pairs when I have the money to see what's going on.

i grabbed those from your test and will test them myself when i have my LPM. i should get it by the end of the month. so we will see as far as that goes.

i had a pair from gary but i can not for the life of me find out what the hell i did with them.

and yep the vlt on the glasses i linked was 13% EEK

hopefully i find my blue and red spectrum pair from SL otherwise ill probably end up needing to get 2 more pair from gary

I wouldn't mind a set of goggles for red actually... the problem is I can't find one that first well over goggles, except from certified goggle suppliers, and those are kind of pricey.

Eagle pair are coming over from china, and it looks like JL also carries them... the fit over glasses version.

yeah the certified are pricey i would have no problem paying 100$+ if it was RGB but 2 sets of 150$ glasses are way out of my range

i got the cheapo glasses from amazon, i wont have an LPM for about a month but as eyeballing goes i was able to block about 250mW of 532nm (seller tested power on laserbee) and 750mW of 445nm, no output was visible after passing through the glasses :wave:

Not quite as well as the eagle pair, but they are also somewhat lighter.

They do absolutely nothing for IR unfortunately.

avoid the IR goggles just get a filtered laser or add one. yes the Uvex. im actually really exited because of how cheap they are. meaning i can lose them :crackup:

And I have the totally destroyed pair from testing I use mostly to test for IR.

The fluctuate in price. I've seen them for ~$7 at one point, and in terms of quality, way, way better, vs those cheap red ones from china.

i have never used the red ones. you never tested them for red right? i doubt they will block it but a cheap pair for red would be a good find as well.
