Why are you fascinated with everything LASER?

I would like to know what it is about lasers that fascinates you so much. I am completely addicted to everything laser... I love the coherence of the light. I love how all the power is concentrated onto a very small spot.

I want a free electron laser! .... in a pointer! lol

Okay, here's my reason for obsession:

When I see a laser, I can't help but marvel at how... beautiful it is.

I always am awestruck by how perfect a laser is. Especially the 445 wavelength. The way little particles of dust suddenly glow as the laser heats them up, then slowly fade like embers from a fire.

THAT is what compels me to build lasers. That moment when science and art collide in the most elegant of ways.

For me, just the fact that light can be so concentrated to one spot that it can create heat is fascinating.
Being separated into different colors of the spectrum, way cool!
I especially like the violet lasers, all the different things you can make illuminate.
And of course, just the seemingly endless beam extending away from you in a perfect line.

The thing that I like to point out to others when talking about lasers is that for all they do, they are nothing more than a beam of light.
If you told someone 150 years ago that you could punch through a thick piece of steel with a beam of light they would have locked you up.
Yet today you can carve into solid materials with predictable and precise control with results that can be better than the most complicated cutting machines.
You can do things that no machine could ever hope to do. (Laser eye surgery)
And now we have pointers that take less power than an old flashlight and can accomplish many of these feats.
All with a little light.
Pretty impressive.

Being able to reach out to the stars.

Most ppl don't care about lasers, but everyone who see's a 1W 445nm for the first time, we'll it always brings a good reaction out of those who normally wouldn't.

I am fascinated with lasers for a plethora of reasons, but I find a few things make them more appealing to me then they otherwise would have been:

-Lasers, to me, are a representation of the advancement of technology and mankind. They are, in a way, representative of the pinnacle of technology and human achievement. It is a sensational feeling to own, construct, or use such a device.
-Seeing a coherent beam of concentrated light is simply amazing.
-It provides the feeling of reaching distances that otherwise would be incredibly difficult to reach or influence or even provide the illusion of reaching (perhaps shining a laser at the top of a peak, or shining a laser into the sky).
-I am simply fascinated with light and colour; seeing it in such a concentrated form is breathtaking.

Most other reasons are relatively similar to these.

It baffles me how so few care for, are awed by, or appreciate lasers as (most) people on this forum do.

Exactly why I like them only, worded better.

I love the imposible, pure radiation, the delicate but powerful precision.

I love the things you can do with a laser that never has think before.

EM physics is the bees knees... and lasers are a way to pinpoint parts of the em spectrum so you can actually see what all the numbers mean. Also what everyone else said (ie lightsabers, human technology, etc). Also i love sci-fi so being able to be a Han Solo or a Malcolm Reynolds is awesome! Not to mention making my wife dip beneath the lasers(safely i assure you) like catherine zeta jones in the hollywood blockbuster entrapment is a bonus. Exotic wavelengths, especially 589 :D, just get me aroused. I LOVE EVERYTHING LASERS!!!
