Haha no wonder it blew at 450ma! I can't believe it wasn't completely blown out, it still works but it's only a few mw and gets really hot. Though I'm still not sure if there was reverse polarity involved or not

Thanks for the explanation lazeerer, and thanks Glenn for everything! I like your business card too ;)

Ben, I have connected diodes many times in reverse either by being stupid or being reckless or just sleepy :-D and I've never blown any by doing that

I've done it before to red diodes and they were fine, but I wasn't sure out this because it's bluray and it was a boost driver it could have put some pretty high voltage on it.

Hey Glenn, I got another 12x to put in my build after this one crapped out and I noticed an easy way to tell them apart. Lazeerer said there was a blue dot but you have to extract the diode to check that. If you just bend back the piece of metal covering the diode and look at the flex cable the real 12x will only have 2 pins soldered to the ribbon (case pin isn't connected) but the fake one has all 3 pins soldered. So you could just bend the metal back a bit and check them on your future sales

Hah, I was going to suggest that too I have photos even ready here is the flex of the fake ones:

the 3rd pin cannot be seen here as I cut it down during extracting :D but notice difference here >

if 3 pins - fake
if 2 pins - real

Yeah, here is a quick picture of the real 12x cable. Notice how only two of the holes have solder.

Yea you dont have to extract the diode you can just peak under the ribbon.:)

But yes also the solder points on the Pins is also a Give away.

This is a Rare Case and Just a Mistake Mix up that this happened. I have only seen this a couple times. So it should not happen again.:)

I think Suppliers that offer sleds have all been notified for this and they will do there best to keep this from Happening. They are usally pretty good with keeping us happy.:)

The one that Glen shipped me is authentic also.

It really sucks that counterfeit BDR-S06J sleds made it into the supply pool. Now that there is an easy way to tell them apart, I hope the Chinese suppliers check before shipping out new orders?

There not Counterfeit. Your getting confused. They are Most likely a sled from a Lower power burner that uses the same sled but lower power diodes.

They places where we get these sleds from would not do such a thing a send out counterfeits or even buy them.

It was a Mix Up between the 2 identical looking sleds but with different diodes in there.

Glenn Thank You for taking the time to help us all as you have with buys like this!
Also thanks a lot to all those who gave the clues on how to determine the bad from the good, it is so easy to check the soldered connections count but I did manage to see the blue dot finally after struggling with my illuminated/helping hands/magnifying glass.

one of my four has 3 soldered pins, the rest with two.

Shall I send this one back Glenn?

Thanks again!
