Quickshow even has a live VJ mode that will let you sit back and listen to the music (and watch the laser show) while it listens as well and does all the work. Granted its like putting the laser into the sounds mode like you are now, but with one very big difference. You cant add to the chip in the laser projector, but in quickshow you can add countless patterns and graphics, and even create your own.

of course the BEST part of quickshow is making your own choreographed laser shows to your favourite tunes. :)

(and I dont even own a quickshow yet, but have played with the demo!)

It's more fun being a live VJ than letting it run on it's own though... and you have to tell it the speed of the music for it to work right.

You need to own it.

The one posted by smeers, i've always been interested in laser shows ever since seeing some Qlimax vids.
Any recommendations on what i could buy to get me started?
(sorry if this is considered thread hijacking, didn't want to make a separate thread asking)

Laser shows are the best and Qlimax looks awesome...

There are many options... It really depends on your budget... How much are you willing to spend?

Well i don't have much space to play about with at home, so i was thinking something basic that will create some nice beam effects in fog.
I'm not fussed on projecting moving images onto a surface, i just find the way a laser show can make the music you listen to seem way better.
But realistic budget is probably Under $1k (more it is longer i'd have to save for it)

If you want something small and cheap the Casa CTL-CM is a good candidate at around $150.

If you can spare a bit more space the Reke 500RGB is a good choice at $210 and offers 7 colors and animation capabilities.

If you want to spend closer to a grand you can find some higher end laser equipment but if you really want to take advantage of it you will need software and hardware to control it...

I have the Reke 500 RGB with Pangolin Quick Show (cost about $800 together)

Check out my review of the two units I listed in the reviews section for details...

I don't know much about the higher end projectors as far as what's good or bad though, if you want that check on PL, they can hook you up.

I am definatly buying a quickshow. Just posted on PL about the lappy I intend to use as a dedicated laser show computer.

Then I'll probably buy one of the Reke units while I finish off my bigger projector. It'll let me have fun with quickshow and get creative (albeit with TTL modulation) until I can get the 1-1.5W beast up and running. It will also egg me on to get the Thor projector finished and have the analogue colour palatte along with over a watt of punch.

Alternatively if theres enuf space in the Reke, I could take out the p!ssweak lasers and put bigger ones in. But I really dont want to put my $600 DT40 Wides in that enclosure, and really, 500mw is tonnes in an apartment.

I just have to remember to cover up the smoke alarm before I fire up my fogger :)

heres a brilliantly fun and novel use for a laser projector - beats ANY video of its kind involving pointers!

sidenote: Zoof (the creator of this program) will not release it. Rightfully so - although fun, this is one of the most dangerous things you can do with a 1.2 watt laser projector.

GuyFromHe, did your signature come from a chinglish manual? :)

Even if i bought of those things, i don't know how to use it.

That's the whole problem... well not a problem but info lacks.

Cheers..

I don't normally post over here as I'm not a huge pointer fan and I know that makes me unpopular over here, but thought I could help in this instance (white-light from PL).

There's a QS demo here to download:

http://www.pangolin.com/_Files/Setup_QS2_Ev.exe

You can't output from it but you can play with on the PC and see what you're creating via the preview window. You'll find it very easy to use with no tuition but more powerful if you dig below the surface.

I dont have a clue how to program (except basic uC stuff), so if you like once I get my pangolin setup I can send you my Framestreamer - that should have an SDK available for it.

You figured out how to control the FB3? Pangolin haven't released a SDK for it. I was looking at sniffing the USB communication between it and QuickShow, though I have no idea what any of it means :p

Oohhh, you mean the DAC framestreamer. I thought you wrote some software for the FB3 .. nevermind :p

Yeah duh - I have a framestreamer which I can send up and you can have a fiddle with it and see what you can come up with.

Nice! You will love QuickShow! :)

Interesting you bring this topic back up, now that I have BEYOND, maybe I'll try learning some of the scripting features and see if I can replicate that vid. Not sure what kind of hardware integration it has yet though.
